JOKE: supplement to Machiavelli in layman's terms ... do u really want to piss her off?//prime rib

"Save as many good secretaries as you can.  You can't do the job without those people.  Besides, doesn't your secretary know an awful lot about you?  Do you really want to piss her off?"  lmao.  so true.
i'm reading a book on "What would Machiavelli do?"   Its actually a required supplement for business classes in many universities because the book the Prince by Machiavelli written FIVE hundred years ago is used as the basis for all government and large corporation hierarchies in all civilized countries worldwide.   (Incidentally, all democracies worldwide are based on the New Testament of the King James bible.)    the book, the prince, is truthful but ruthless and you generally only read pieces of it for school because the english is so old even in translation its hard to get through - its not a long book, just strange.  this supplement is in layman's english and to me, its more of a joke, though ridiculously honest as well.

the man that wrote this supplement is talking about firing people.   (i'm actually against firing and FOR re-training, though some people are so awful, thieves, liars, maligners, excessive absenteeism - that you have no choice, but to fire them.  the supervisor before me, was actually a bully in the workplace, and would instigate trouble and enjoyed hurting others as much as possible.  what a weirdo.  He was so mean and two-faced, that people never went to court to fight being fired by him because they hated him so much, though alllll lodged complaints against him in general.  our regional branch said they would never go through having someone like that around again, it was so bad.  so can only imagine it must be much worse than what i know about).   about firing people the author says:  "I practically barfed the night before the first one (that he had to fire).  The second one (that he had to fire) kind of bugged me, too, particularly when he cried.  After that, it was easier."  He says, "... feel good about yourself doing it... when the bad ones are gone, I looked about me and it was good.  I thoroughly enjoy the absence of each and every one of the people I fired, every single day.   Tough?  sure.  But the ends were just, you know what i'm talking about?"
This is a tiny little book and costs $16.00 but i recommend reading it for anyone that is in business.   He gives a pecking order of who to get rid of when, if you are taking over a company or a position of authority.     Who is the first to go?  1.  Consultants;   2. Very old people;  3.  Very young people;  4.  Board members;  5.  Expensive senior officers/managers with a small reporting structure (like a Senior Manager with only five people under him/her);   6.  Assorted people with little to no skills that no one likes and no one will miss;  7.  Aging boomers who are the back bone of the company;  8.  People in their thirties who can talk to people in their twenties;  9.  Support staff.
Kind of scary, because its like half the people will be gone if a take-over or power-change occurs -- chopped, numbers 1 though 6 - just plain gone, even if they haven't done anything wrong.

the people who's jobs are guaranteed and carry-over no matter what is Support Staff first to stay, (make sure you have skills, have heard that one my entire life, from around age ten on.  lol.)   people in their thirties are the second to stay and boomers [people born between 1954 and 1964 (the ones older than this (age 62 and up) are already retired or forced to retire)] who are the back bone of the company and are the third to stay - the rest can go.
He also recommends this:  "Save as many good secretaries as you can.  You can't do the job without those people.  Besides, doesn't your secretary know an awful lot about you?  Do you really want to piss her off?"  lmao.  so true.  I was being harassed by a new lawyer (who sucks as a lawyer, by the way) who had no clue what he was doing and owes me $3500 to this day - 25 years later with interest and damages its a zillion times more than that.  i was actually making more money than him and had to re-write and edit all his work because it was soooooo bad.  never suspected i was also getting robbed by him as well, but he was also pigeoning from the law firm and costing them probably millions in losses (pigeoning is when a person copies a file and puts the file back and then gives the copy to the other side and the other side pays him/her for it.    its illegal, but people try to get other people to do this allll the time.  was shocked to discover he was doing this and he wasn't caught until 1993, and he had done this from 1988-1989.
the guy is scum and his father is a rabbi, (who knows if he's a legit rabbi or just a stolen diploma or something) so because his father was a rabbi, you don't think of him as a suspect and it WAS him (wonder how many honest people were fired because of what he was doing.  sickening).    him and this girl christiner.    in fact most of what happened back then was from those two and then a few other "corrupt" lawyers within the firm.  when a firm is that big, 300 people, there are factions within going against each other even though its ONE firm and they should all be on the same side, but they aren't.  my boss had to explain to this creep when i was offered more money than him and a made-up title to explain the extra money that people like me, (support staff) are very difficult to replace, but people like him - one of many lawyers, especially since his writing skills suck - are a dime a dozen and very easy to come by.  the lawyers have to be able to bring in clients to make partner.  BIG clients in a place like that.  a lawyer who is a nuisance doesn't last long.  he lasted a year.  i think the jerk was in shock, he thought very highly of himself and never appreciated people who helped him, if anything it annoyed him that he couldn't do the job and seemed to blame those who helped him for that (without help he would have been fired within the first 90 days) he also didn't care that he was "stealing from the poor" as in, stealing from people he assumed were making less money than him.  unreal.  you would think he was a gambler or drug addict acting like that, but he wasn't, he was just a mental case - sadistic and narcissistic and loved taking advantage of people and ripping off people etc., a bully in sheep's clothing.  eventually, you realize what he is.  in the beginning i felt sorry for him.
being a lawyer was this guy's "first job", which all by itself should have been a red flag (normal people start working as a child, first a paper route, then crossing guard and/or babysitting, then summer camps (or some sequence similar to that), then a series of part time jobs where you learn how things are done professionally - each job lasting six months to one year - several jobs like that is ideal between the ages of 15 and 19 - you don't spend those years asking your mommy how to do things - those years are done (and for most people, you have already done enough team sports and musical performances and student activities in elementary school that "asking your mommy" ceased somewhere around third grade), unless you are retarded.    you go out in the world and learn for real.
it FLOORS me when you meet the lazy ones who don't work at all in their teens and its like, do you realize you are several years behind everyone else?  who the hell lives their life like that.  if i met someone like that nowadays, i'd see them for what they are, a cheat and a thief.    back then i assumed the person had tyrants for parents and weren't allowed out and i felt bad for them.  hmmm, that still wouldn't explain the person being 18 and 19 and 20 etc., and no job?  they could have covered six jobs in those three years when over 18 - they should have skills from taking business classes and/or tech classes as electives in high school, what are they doing instead?   watching tv most of them or going to the movies.  then get a JOB at the movies.  do something.  join the military and let them make you into something if you can't do it yourself.     plus, this guy would lie about himself all the time and had no clue that as my boss being head of the finance committee i knew how much he made and where he went to school etc.  what a jerk.   he was such an asshole.  that is who i think of when i read this book.

One of the guy's from work came by with his wife and a friend of his, who is visiting.  they are on their way out to dinner.   Two hours later he returns and soooo nice brought me back dinner.  prime rib, baked potato and salad and says Happy New Year!  wow.    this guy is soooooo thoughtful and nice.  hope she realizes what a great guy he is.   he used to bring in food all the time last year until he had his second stroke and stopped.  have a feeling he shouldn't really be eating this kind of food.  i shouldn't either.  its really good though.

Very interesting, so many people do not realize how replaceable they are on the job front. Sad. New companies/owners take over. In the long haul your loyalty on the job is not really that meaningful.

i agree. the most meaningful thing in life is free time. time is worth millions all by itself - its always good to look for work where you make your own time and have a lot of time on your own. don\'t know how people live the other way, especially alarm clock people. omg! why do they live like that
