JOKE/POEM: WARNING BY JENNY JOSEPH...when i am an old woman i'll wear purple...
Warning
"When I am an old woman I shall wear purpleWith a red hat which doesn't go, and doesn't suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer glovesAnd satin sandals, and say we've no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I'm tiredAnd gobble up samples in shops
and press alarm bellsAnd run my stick along the public railingsAnd make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rainAnd pick flowers in other people's gardens
And learn to spit. You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fatAnd eat three pounds of sausages at a go
Or only bread and pickle for a week
And hoard pens and pencils and beermats and things in boxes. But now we must have clothes that keep us dryAnd pay our rent and not swear in the streetAnd set a good example for the children. We must have friends to dinner and read the papers. But maybe I ought to practice a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprisedWhen suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple."

Hmmm, I think I have been practicing for quite a while now, lol. Thanks for the smile! Love ya, E
\"And learn to spit!! LOL.....This is great! I needed the giggle! Thanks!
This poem is framed and right behind my bed. I found it in Savannah, Georgia, and it reminded me so much of my grandmother, gone 54 years now. Then my mother fell in love with it.....her favorite color was purple, and indeed, as she got older, she wore tons of it. She is gone now, too. I had hung it in her house while she was alive. I have it back and it stays with me, near where I can read it almost every day, and I, too, say, \"when I am and old woman, I shall wear purple.\" I love it!
me too!
i keep thinking, give them hell, jenny joseph! lol.
Loved this! Lol, thank you for this, nice to have a good laugh!
Hugs to you,
Sandy
That is SO FUNNY. I had read it before, but was glad to bring it to mind again. As a 67 year-old senior, I can really identify with the freedom that finally comes to wear what you want, say what you want--people will just laugh and put it down to old age!
Is there any age restrictions for starting this sort of life? just want to know if I am legal to be here, bit late if there is.
T H A N K S...
I like this as well. They even have a \"Purple Hat Society\"..
I do not not about getting fat though, Not good especially when getting older
But enjoying good foods within a balance of moderation and satisfaction.
My bicycle and helmet are purple,I have t-shirts that are purple as well and I am getting old..so I feel blessed to be in such wonderful company. Hugs hon xo
nice wit ! thanks for sharing !
I love that poem! Thanks bunches!
Yep, this has made my day. thanks for posting.
posted the red hat society that goes with the poem. its posted as march 11. they say if there isn\'t one near you, to just open one up. like girl scouts. very few requirements to get in - like prove you are over 50 for red hat and under fifty for pink hat.
