JOKE:CARTOON: You know you're gettin old when...//HAPPY ADVENT!!!!
"You know you're gettin' old when
you can't walk past a bathroom without thinking,
"I may as well pee while i'm here."
Happy Advent!!!
Advent is the beginning of the Western liturgical year and commences on Advent Sunday.
At least in the Roman Catholic, Anglican, Lutheran, Moravian, Presbyterian and Methodist calendars,
Advent starts on the Sunday between November 27 and December 3 inclusive [which is now] - the fourth Sunday before December 25.
Christians of these denominations observe the season through practices such as
keeping an Advent calendar, lighting an Advent wreath, praying an Advent daily devotional, among other ways of preparing for Christmastide
The Eastern churches' equivalent of Advent is called the Nativity Fast,
the Nativity fast prepares Eastern Christians for the celebration of Christmas.
The Eastern fast runs for 40 days instead of four (Roman rite) or six weeks (Ambrosian rite) and thematically focuses on proclamation and glorification of the Incarnation of God,
whereas the Western Advent focuses on the two comings (or advents) of Jesus Christ: his birth and his Second Coming or Parousia [which they are still waiting for].
The fast is observed from November 15 to December 24, inclusively. These dates apply to those Orthodox Churches which use the Revised Julian calendar, which currently matches the Gregorian calendar. For those Eastern Ortohodox Churches which still follow the Julian calendar (Churches of Russia, Georgia, Serbia, Ukraine, Macedonia, Mount Athos and Jerusalem), the Winter Lent does not begin until November 28 (Gregorian) which coincides with November 15 on the Julian calendar. The Ancient Church of the East fasts dawn til dusk from the 1st December until the 25th of December on the Gregorian calendar.
The eastern church year begins September 1. [I actually prefer the Eastern church's set up. Its more organized and easier to understand. But i'm not greek or "eastern". cool religion though. wonder if i can "fast" for 40 days. omg! quite a cleanse if you do. all the poisons leave your body.]
The Eastern Christmas fast does not use the equivalent parousia in its preparatory services.

so, in addition to jn\'s mother\'s death. this holiday season, another divorce. its not someone i know well anyway, but it still annoys me. its easier to spend holidays, on the water like the kids or at a restaurant which is what rb started doing last year. big surprise actually, as he used to do what bl does, and suffer through it. lol. half kidding here. anyway. they do what my uncles used to do, go to the movies and a restaurant. one of my uncles was totally into that, like first showing and all that. that doesn\'t always work out if the movie isn\'t that good.
with the ancients the fast begins december 1 until december 25 (gregorian) december 1 julian is now. wonder if it can do that. wouldn\'t that be great! anyone want to advent fast? lol.
the idea is to cleanse your body, not just to lose weight. do penance. get all the bad out of you spiritually and physically from the previous year. i would love to do that.
