Jesus in the FEASTS (oil, wine, bread)
JOEL 2: 18 Then the LORD became zealous for his land; he had compassion on his people. 19 The LORD responded to his people, “Look! I am about to restore your grain as well as fresh wine and olive oil. You will be fully satisfied. I will never again make you an object of mockery among the nations."JESUS - OUR OIL, BREAD, & WINEThe Passover/ Feast of Unleavened Bread - The Seder Supper/Passover Meal and the Feast of Unleavened Bread was separated by only the Sabbath from Passover. Jesus shared this meal with His disciples and we call it Communion/Last Supper. Because Passover was on the Sabbath (Saturday), Jesus had to be taken down from the cross BEFORE Passover. Then on Sunday, the 1st day after the Sabbath, Jesus arose from the dead which we call Easter but Jews refer to this as the beginning of The Feast of Unleavened Bread began on the day after the Passover and lasted 7 days (Lev 23:5-8). Next, the Jews would celebrate on the 1st day after the Sabbath (Saturday) The Feast of Weeks/The Day of 1st Fruits - This is where there are 50 days begin Levit. 23:16. Jesus died by our calendar on Good Friday, however, Jews use a lunar calendar so when He died, to the Jews it would count as Thursday (until sunrise) and Thursday evening began when 3 stars appeared ushered in Friday.
Jesus went to Hell, regained the keys of death, Hell & the grave from Satan! Then Jesus appeared after, His resurrection, on this day (Sunday) and became our offering of First Fruits as our Omar ( a measurement required for offering at the Temple), a measurement of barley, which could be made into flour, His body. Jesus appeared to Mary and told her not to hold onto Him (John 20:17) because He had not yet ascended to His father. This is part of the Jewish Law that the First Fruits be presented to the Lord. Jesus fulfilled that. For 40 days, Jesus appeared at various places, times and to various people. The Bible does not state, but I believe that during that time, Jesus was traveling between Heaven & Earth. 40 is the number of preparation.The Feast of Pentecost - Other names for this are the Feast of Weeks and the Feast of Harvests. It was celebrated of the 6th day of the month of SIVAN (our June), seven weeks after the offering of the wave sheaf after the Passover. The name "Pentecost", meaning 50th, originated from the fact that there was an interval of 50 days between the two. The feast lasted a single day (Deu 16:9-12), and marked the completion of the wheat harvest. The characteristic ritual of this feast was the offering and waving of two loaves of leavened bread, made from the ripe grain which had just been harvested. This was done by the priest in the name of the congregation. In addition to these wave offerings, the people were enjoined to give the Lord an offering of the first fruits of their produce. The amount of the offering was not designated.This combined the 3 feasts the Mosaic Law enjoined to be attended by all male Jews who were physically able and ceremonially clean (Ex 23:17, Deu 16:16), the other two being the Feast of Weeks or Pentecost, and the Feast of Tabernacles. These were known as the pilgrimage festivals; an on all of them special sacrifices were offered, varying according to the character of the festival (Num 28,29).
Jesus ate this with His disciples and we refer to it as "The Last Supper" which is when Jesus instituted the New Covenant. A covenant CANNOT be broken unless the superior wants to break it OR one of them die. This is another reason Jesus had to die on the cross in our place to end the Old Law Covenant and bring in the New Covenant of Grace.When God blessed His people with grain, fresh wine, and oil, He was giving them the very things they needed to make offerings in the Temple as well as what would be used in Passover Seder meal and later as our communion with Christ Jesus in the New Covenant we have through Him.Let's start with the blessing of grain. This grain was made into flour to offer at the Temple, eat, or take the grain and plant it to reap later at a harvest. Jesus Himself said "unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it can not bring forth a harvest." John 12:24
The blessing of oil is critical. In Jewish life, the olive was preserved, eaten ripe, used for medicine, used for money, and used to protect the body as a treatment which also beautified. The blessing of wine, Jewish kosher wine, is very high in anti-oxidants, it was used as medicine for injuries, it was used as medicine orally, it was used in wedding to show blessings would flow for the newlyweds, and wine was used in sacraments.While studying my Bible, I got to reading about last week's lesson and olive oil. Then it struck me that the olive oil process and Jesus were connected because "bruised" was used for both of them. So, let me explain and hopefully, you will then understand the great price Jesus paid and His great love for you!God has always made sure that His people had oil, bread & wine. It could be used as an offering in the Temple as well as you see in Joel 2:18. He gave it as a blessing but look closer, God was providing all that would be needed for the New Covenant through Jesus Christ in Holy Communion.Olives go through 3 pressings. They are harvested from trees by sticks to beat the olive tree so the ripe fruit falls, sifted between each pressing and then the remains thrown in the ground. Now, when Adam & Eve sinned, they gave away their WILL, their BODIES, and SOULS over to Satan and lost the Garden of Eden. Forever having to earn their keep by the sweat of their brow.1st pressing of olives is for God's use only and is Extra Extra Virgin Olive Oil. It is used to anoint priests, kings, prophets, the Temple and the holy items in the Temple. Imagine with me, that we are there, in the darkness watching Jesus as He goes through His first pressing. The 1st pressing of Jesus was in the Garden of Gethsemane, an olive garden and olive press, Gethsemane means olive press. Jesus prayed for God's WILL unlike Adam & Eve who followed their own will. His pressure so intense, with Satan taunting Him to give up, the price was too great, the pain too unbearable, yet Jesus prayed on until He sweat great drops of blood. Our wills were now blood bought.2nd pressing of olives is Extra Virgin Olive Oil. His body was taken to the scourging post. This is the place where He is beaten beyond human recognition. This seems harsh and it is. He was "bruised" for our iniquities. This blood is the 2nd pressing and Jesus' blood is buying back our BODIES from the authority that Satan placed over us. See government and other "men" had control while Jesus was at the scourging post. Law bound us and no matter how hard we worked, Law of Moses couldn't be kept and therefore, we could never be good enough in our bodies to reach God & heaven.3rd pressing of olives is Virgin Olive Oil. It is used for medicine, cooking, lighting, and to put on the body & hair to help it keep safe from the dry conditions of Judea. It is used for burning as lights, medicine, to be rub into the hair & on the skin to protect the hair & skin from the dry harsh conditions of Judea. Jesus would have done the same thing. Jesus now is ready to give us the bread & wine from His own body. Jesus, on the cross, said, "IT IS FINISHED. Into thy hands (God the Father) I commit my spirit." This is where the Roman soldier pierced Jesus' side and water & blood flowed together purchasing our SOULS. Now there truly was nothing left to be redeemed because Jesus had His blood put on all the things we had given up through Adam & Eve.Finally, my beloved Jesus, is taken down and placed in the ground as were olives that were no more able to be recognized as olives.....
Take time and think on this. Try to put yourself in these places at these events and KNOW that you and I are the reason Jesus is doing this so we can with a free will and a free body accept Him as our Lord and have our souls freed as well. THINK OF IT! Jesus did this before you were ever born knowing that at some time you would need to be free to make a choice of who you'd live for...Him or yourself. He paid dearly for our lives. We were bought with a price the Bible states and what a price! Too high to imagine!
