From 2013 to 2016, he played the title role in the British television drama series Mr Selfridge, the semi-fictional story based on the life of Harry Selfridge, who founded the London department store Selfridge's. The show aired on the ITV network in the United Kingdom and on PBS in the United States. McKay was one of the writers for the film The Campaign , and produced the film Daddy's Home , the latter of which reunited The Other Guys stars Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg, and was directed by Sean Anders. McKay also rewrote the script for the Marvel Studios feature film Ant-Man, directed by Peyton Reed; McKay had initially been in talks to direct the film following Edgar Wright's departure, but opted not to out of respect for Wright. McKay also worked with Reed, Paul Rudd, Gabriel Ferrari & Andrew Barrer on Ant-Man and the Wasp to flesh out the story.
On top of being mocked by blogs and late night shows, his co-star Elisabeth Moss called him "unprofessional," which only added to his reputation as an on-set diva. Oddly enough, an arbitrator would rule in Piven's favor that he didn't violate his contract. But according to The New York Times, he won because producers dragged their feet on hiring their own physician to question Piven's doctor's "fishy" diagnosis. Later that month, Anastasia Taneie, who worked as an extra on Entourage, alleged that Piven "confronted her in a dark hallway and groped her breast and genitals as he forcefully pushed her against a wall". On November 27, 2017, CBS decided not to order a full season of Wisdom of the Crowd following weak ratings and allegations of sexual harassment involving Piven. On August 1, 2019, Piven appeared on a KTVU morning news segment to promote a standup comedy show he was to perform in the next night in San Francisco.

The production began preview performances on October 3, 2008, and opened on October 23, 2008; the play was due to run through February Jeremy Piven 22, 2009. After Piven missed several performances, on December 17, 2008, Piven's representation announced that due to an undisclosed illness, Piven would be ending his run in the play effective immediately.

Messing says she told Piven to take it easy, but he refused to listen. "I was like, 'You know, this is comedy. We don't really go that deep.' And every time he went for it." Not cool.
