January 28, 2010 - This week......

Sunday - Update on Dad - he is doing good,  still really sore - wore a plaid shirt because he cannot wear any of his sweatshirts or t shirts.  Showed me the drain - Its just this little thing.  Doing really well with it.  Gets it off on....my birthday monday.  LOL!! My mother is doing great and lost about 70 lbs.  She now weighs less than I do.  I better get a cracking on my diet and exercise.   I didn't stay too long there because it was a work night (sunday).  Mom and I played dominos for about 2 hours.  We played 4 rounds but she beat me by about 25 pts.  Dad thought we were done with the whole game. I kept going into the living room and saying to him - I beat mom this round, damn she beat me by 10 pts..... No...that would take hrs.  LOL!!  Watched the 1st quarter of the steelers and NY Jets game with my steelers friend Tom.  His neighbor rich from across the street came over and we had pizza.  Tom was driving me crazy so I went home.  It was a long day.  Apparently the Steelers killed the Jets.  Now the Steelers are in the superbowl and Tom is unfit to live with (I don't live with him).  But you get my drift.  This is gonna be a hard week talking to him on the phone!
Monday - woke up at 4am to go to the bathroom (ok, have to start off with this = we all get up at 4am to go to the bathroom..LOL!!).  I was fine.  Then I woke up at 6:15am, got up from the bed and I had a slight pull from the left side muscle of my back.  I thought, oh no....I better pack up the heating pad for work and try not to lift anything at all.   I proceeded to get ready for my shower and pulled my arm overhead to take off my PJs and all of the sudden,  the muscles on my left side started to pull so hard that I let out a "YELP"!   Enough for my landlord next door to wake up.   That didn't happen.  I immediately called Arlene and Sonja to call in.  I was in great deal of pain.  I didn't even put my PJ's on but laid back down and It throbbed so bad.  Later on around noon, I moved to the living room on the recliner with the heating pad for the rest of the day.  (Apparently, at work they had their little issue with Mr Roach's cousin visiting Mary's office next door glad I missed this because her door is facing me).  My counseling session was cancelled anyways because Judith had a family emergency.  I couldn't get off the recliner.
Tuesday - Feeling ok but good enough for going to work.  I called my dentist because I wasn't sure when my appt was.   They said today at 5pm.  Damn!  I wanted to go home.  I did go home for a moment because my friend Dan was gonna stop by and didn't have his #. I needed to call him and leave a message telling him to not come out.   I almost got stuck in the front of the driveway at home (damn plows).  I ran in to grab my tracphone, headed down to Hamburg (20 miles) to my dentist appt.  It was a good appt.  I told Kim my hygentist that I really don't have time to deal with dental problems.  I have to concentrate on my kidney issues and breast cancer/abnormal issues.  All my #s were mostly 1,2 and 3.  One # was 4 (back molar upper left).  Got home, My landlord was shoveling and finished the driveway. Talked to him alittle bit.  He told me that his fiance Jen and him are gonna buy a house.  He will rent out the other side - this probably won't happen until either August or Sept.  I then sat with the heating pad on low setting for the rest of the night with my left side.
Wednesday - Denise came in to talk to me about her site's CPR sign in sheets.  Armed with a list of units.  She needs them by next friday, 2/4.  Great.  There had to be 20 or so units on this list.  I did one and sent it to her.  My thought is to do 10 or so a day.  I'd like to finish by the 2nd.  Which gives me a few extra days to do any extra's that she might need.  Just as Todd, Michelle and Diana did had the nurses here demo CPR In September (threw the dummies on a cart and traveled to each unit for CPR competencies).  Denise, Judy, Maryann and Millie will do the same at Buffalo General.  Another Cousin of Mr huge roach came to visit Marylou across the hall, all of the sudden I heard 2 people scream.  apparently he walked across the room.  Mary grabbed a box top and proceeded to kill it.  Jeanine the secretary at the end of the hall, grabbed a papertowel from the bathroom and threw him out.  Yuck.  Jeanine is so brave.   Her office is way at the end of the hall.
Thursday - It was Jen's welcoming breakfast in our larger conference room down the hall.  I didn't realize that ALL the instructors were invited to this.  Thought it was just us.  It was nice to see everyone from the other sites.  I didn't stay long, talked alittle bit with some of the other instructors but the minute they started talking shop, I was out of there.  Grabbed my plate and went back to the office.  Denise mentioned that she wanted the sign in sheets alittle different.  Wasn't sure what she ment.  She questioned about a unit that only had 4 names on the report.  Ran that report and showed her.  There was other names but wasn't sure if they were RN's, she said to put them on anyways.  We talked about the program, I actually had it up (you can grab the list and export it to Excel).  She said thats what I was talking about.  I began making 1 roster on the excel spreadsheet and scanned it over to her for her review.  I didn't realize that she was still here - after the breakfast, she met up with Mary and about 2-3 others for a quick meeting (Sonja and I cleared the food off the tables).  I told her I sent it but printed it out.  She LOVED it!  I was relieved.  Apparently, I was doing a few extra steps.  although it looked really nice on the word sign in sheet, it was easier just to export it to Excel.    I did about 10 sign in sheets but now she wants some things bolded and a new column with job code and job description.  ok. I can fix that relatively easy.  Rest of the day was noneventful.
Friday (today) - This morning is working out pretty good.  Went down to the cafe to grab some milk. There was this woman in line but she was standing far away from the other person in line.  I asked her really nicely, "are you in line"  She turned around and gave me this look that could kill.   she wasn't very nice at all - had an all out attitude.  Drank the milk but it was actually vanilla milk and it was super sweet so I didn't finish it.  It was pretty gross.  Im out 1.12, oh well.  Jen came in to talk about our informal meeting, her schedule is getting full so she told me to come in anytime.  thats fine, I wanted to talk about the school semester interns and ACLS registrations etc.  The Orkin man came in while I was talking to Kelly about some medical supply ordering.  He sprayed something in the corners with some roach killer.  Not sure if it works because these roaches are so bold and don't care who is there with them.
Oh well, thats it for this week.  So crazy!  Going to PA tomorrow with Jen in the morning.

Sounds like a very busy week you had. Roaches are no fun, I hope you get rid of them now that you had the Orkin man there to spray. Your dad seems to be doing just fine, that is great!! You do a lot of work, I hope everyone appreciates you. As for your muscles, do you know what is going on with them? It sounds very painful. Sitting with a hot pad doesn\'t sound like much fun to me.
