IVF Question
I am just curious if those of you who have done IVF before had any unforeseen costs come up during your cycle??
We have our meeting scheduled for the 15th to discuss our upcoming cycle and receive our calendar but I want to know, going in to that meeting, what to expect.
Our RE already provided us with his fee's for each cycle and it looks like a fresh cycle will be about $10,500 without meds. He said to plan on paying between $3-4,000 for the medications. Did you have any additional costs that we might not have planned or budgeted for??

Not really. The only unforeseen cost we had was to do ISCI. Ryan\'s sperm looked great in the SA so we intended to do the regular fertilization (throw them together in a petri dish) ;-) but they called us to say all the sperm were dying and they needed to do ISCI or this wouldn\'t work. So that was an extra $1500 but I am sure with donor sperm your dr is planning for ISCI. Other than that it was pretty straight forward (for us). I am sure those that \"get to\" include insurance get more complications and unexpected expenses.
Oh that\'s good to know! We hadn\'t really talked about ISCI with our RE, maybe it will come up at our appt next week so I\'m not sure if they will do it or not. It\'s not listed on their IVF cost sheet so I would guess it costs extra...
Oh Lindsay I am so excited this is finally happening for you. I am not sure if all clinics do this but at my clinic all frozen sperm they use icsi. They included in my base fee. I would definitely try to budget a few extra thousand just to be safe. After I finally l got a bfp I had to get retested every other day to make sure they doubled appropriately. I had to pay 20% each time it was only $18 but every other day adds up fast and the medication estimate they gave me was only up to getting pregnant. I was paying almost $500 every 10 days just to try and stay pregnant. Also make you have enough saved for freezing and storing any extra embryos.
Do you have a basic timeline yet? My doctor wants to give me a cycle off then put me on birth control for a month then stimm in September and retrieval in late September or early October. It seems so far away.
Kristi, we have our appt on the 15th to get our basic calendar and I will ask then about the ICSI as it is not listed on the IVF Fees page they gave us. I\'m pretty sure that once I get a BFP all tests and medications are covered by my insurance...at least that\'s how it was when I got my ectopic BFP because my RE became my pregnancy Dr according to Tricare so everything was covered. Hopefully it would be the same this time around! I appreciate the feedback and will definitely have more info next week. But as far as a basic timeline our RE said something like starting the stims around the 24th and going through the end of July and the ER would be around the 5th and the transfer would be around the 10th of August. So it sounds like you won\'t be more than 1 month behind me...that is as long as everything goes smoothly for me!
