It Stinks
It may not be a real funny story but kinda gave me some notoiety for the past cple days. My house has a full basement with windowwells in the basement. Our weather has been very irradic and apparently a skunk in the midst of a rainstorm blindly fell into one of the window wells to the basement, just below the bathroom upstairs. Mind you the smell of skunk is not a strange thing, there are great many woodland creatures that inhabit the woods just east of the house. Yep I live in the sticks. My son was the 1st to notice the odor seeping from the bathroom to which he exclaimed, "Dad, are you okay" I assured him I was fine to which he replied "turn the fan on the next time" Iwas questioning his sanity when the well known smell met my nostrils full scale. I rationalized that a skunk had been frightened in the night and had defended himself. That evening around dark30 the smell grew even stronger, I left the house to investigste only to find the aroma was very strong around the house and seemed to be coming from a sewer line that leads over the hill. Wind can play strange tricks on you. My neighbor had called to ask if on of my dogs had killed a skunk per chance ,NO. My stepson and his new wife visited shortly and remarked that there indeed was a skunk close by, again I perused the perimeter and again found nothing. Saturday evening late I took our house dog for a walk to do his business and the little guy found our smelly friend. He was about to jump in the windowwell when I stopped him and found myself looking at a very pissed of skunk. I went to the basement and this skunk has chewed a hole through the screen and is battering the window. Well I tried to be helpful and lowered a board into the window well reaching to the surface in hopes he would take the hint and climb out. No such luck, this morning I had to dispose of the little guy, by lead poisoning him with a bullet. Much to my dismay the neighbor reported the incident and the local sheriffs dept came to investigat why I would be shooting into my basement from outside. Needless to say I took them to the skunks final resting area and informed them next time they can get him out
