Although I made this goal with good intentions, I now realize that it's extremely unlikely to ever happen. There are too many complications. I need to focus my attention and energy on more realistic things.
Hi Jim Glad you posted and that you\'re ok. I know what you mean about the dog thing. Everyone who knows me wants to buy a dog for me. But I am unable to walk the dog in the icy and snowy weather here in MA. I would also be unable to get the dog to the vet by myself. Because I don\'t drive. I tell people I can just about take care of myself in my condo. I can\'t have a dog depending on me for it\'s survival. So it won\'t be happening for me either. Hang in there.BIG HUGS-Stephanie

I got a dog about ten years ago. And then about a year later, I was ready to give him up because it was just too much. Thankfully, my parents take care of the dog now, but it was a very difficult lesson to learn. We have to accept the reality of our limitations without being too sad about it. I think that it\'s smart that you realized this now, before you got a dog that was depending on you. It takes an incredible amount of time and energy (and money!) to take care of a dog, people just don\'t tell you that.
If you really wanted a pet, maybe a cat would be more low maintenance, because then you wouldn\'t have to walk it. Or a rabbit. Or a gerbil. Maybe an ant farm? LOL
But don\'t feel bad, because as much as I love that dog, if I could, I\'d probably travel back in time 10 years and tell myself not to do it.

I just had to give up my dog. I haven\'t even told anyone because I feel so bad about it. You are wise to realize it before you got the dog. It\'s still possible to find a dog friend though. I am looking to find one.
It is a wise man that knows what is best for him, despite what he wants to do.
I would say you have a successful outcome here.
You decided what you wanted then after time and further evaluation made this goal appear to be not in your best interest, you adjusted the goal correctly.
Don\'t give up...you never know what surprising gift reside in your future.
Congratulate yourself for staying in the observation mode long enough to think things through.
