It's getting easier

Last night, after we got home from the big family dinner at Aunt Pam's, everyone got into their comfy clothes, lounging about, poking through their new Christmas stuff... I finally had time to just sit and think a little, after the whole holiday frenzy... I looked up at my husband, and I said, "You know what, it's getting easier." He knew what I was talking about without even saying, and he said, "I know. For me too."I have 20-25 sober "family functions" under my belt now, including weddings and holiday dinners... And summertime, when the livin' is easy, right, I have a sober SUMMER behind me, what a blessing, I thought summer would  be the hardest time for me... I have sober evenings with  my kids, walks in the woods, ball games and board games and band nights... It all starts to add up...it's sneaky and quiet and wonderful... yesterday I looked up and I realized, I am leading a sober life. That's it and that is all. I am not in agony. I am not struggling. I am at peace. Like the oldtimers say, "A body could get used to this."
