It is well...
One thing I've noticed about trying to quit drinking is my mind tries to beat myself up with old memories and regrets, which often makes me want to drink just to subdue the unpleasant thoughts. I don't sit around and think about the good times, I can't help to think about things I've screwed up or could have done better. Then I sit around and play the "what if" game and that game doesn't have a winner, believe me.
But at a meeting recently, someone spoke about their motto which was "let go and let God", meaning let go of those thoughts and let God do his work with you. I have had times where I have repeated this over and over in my head just trying to get myself to stop thinking about unhealthy things. I'm still working on it and its difficult, because I know what those thoughts drive me to. Another little saying I've picked up on is from an old gospel song that someone brought up in a meeting. "When sorrows like sea billows roll.... it is well with my soul". I'm hanging in there, but its not like what I was expecting. I always felt I could drink when I wanted, but now that my brain doesn't have to fight alcohol, it seems like it has to fight itself.

when i read your post this song immediately popped into my head...you may have to look it up on youtube to listen but here are the lyrics... i used to sing this when i was a little girl when i was scared and it ALWAYS stuck with me...i dont like the slow version..but whatever...hope u like it!
You shall cross the barren desert,
but you shall not die of thirst.
You shall wander far in safety,
though you do not know the way.
You shall speak your words in foreign lands,
and all will understand,
You shall see the face of God and live.
Be not afraid,
I go before you always,
Come follow Me,
and I shall give you rest.
If you pass through raging waters
in the sea, you shall not drown.
If you walk amidst the burning flames,
you shall not be harmed.
If you stand before the powr of hell
and death is at your side,
know that I am with you, through it all
Be not afraid,
I go before you always,
Come follow Me,
and I shall give you rest.
Blessed are your poor,
for the Kingdom shall be theirs.
Blest are you that weep and mourn,
for one day you shall laugh.
And if wicked men insult and hate you, all because of Me,
blessed, blessed are you!
Be not afraid,
I go before you always,
Come follow Me,
and I shall give you rest.
