It Is Good Not To Donate Blood When Pregnant

There are many women who diligently keep donating blood at a regular interval. This is because; they are eager to help other people. But when one is pregnant, is it okay to donate blood in that period?
Well, pregnancy and blood donation does not really go hand in hand. One has to wait till the baby is born. As per medical studies, it is a good idea to not to donate blood when one is carrying a baby. Though the body produces some extra blood during pregnancy, it is still not recommended. This is because; that extra blood will help one to sustain the baby inside the womb. If one still goes ahead and donate blood, then they can put the baby as well as herself in a stressful situation.
But still there is no clear and concrete reason why one should not donate blood when pregnant. Again, apparently it is said that if they do so, then they can suffer from anaemia. And blood donation can also make their condition worse. In fact, there are many doctors who advise that one should not think of donating blood till they are breast feeding their baby. This is because, a baby when breast feeding completely depends on the breast milk to get all the nutrients. If the mother donates blood at that period, then they can lose some essential nutrients in the process and it can be harmful for the baby. Also a proper waiting period can also build up the proper amount of iron content needed in the blood.
There are many organisations who do not allow women to donate blood till they have crosses six weeks post pregnancy. The only reason where a pregnant woman is allowed to donate blood when the doctor thinks that they will be needing blood transfusion during the time of baby delivery. This is a kind of blood donation to the future self.
It is said to stay away from blood donation during pregnancy because there is no need to harm the pregnancy. At this tenure the woman needs to nurture themselves the most and so waiting a few months to take part in this noble cause of blood donation is absolutely okay.
In fact, when one sees Red Cross Society and their conditions of blood donation then there are certain situations where one cannot donate blood. They are as follows:
- When one is pregnant.
- When they are suffering a lot from cough and cold.
- When they are taking anti biotic.
- If they have any infection attacks that are not yet cured.
- Within four months of any tattoo or a cosmetic treatment.
- If they are receiving any kind of fertility treatments.
- Suffering from haemophilia or anaemia.
One also does not need to go for early pregnancy and blood donation because that is also not necessary. It is a mother’s duty to keep the baby safe and sound in the womb when they are developing inside and give them proper nutrition.
