It all makes sense now!

After a few years of not feeling well, becoming almost lethargic and having terrible mood swings (I'm a male), I went to my Dr who started doing test for different types of disorders.  She tested for Hypo/Hyper Thyroidism, Cancer screenings and even suggested I get tested for HIV.  (I knew this wasn't a possibility).  I suggested having my iron tested and associated items due to an elevated Iron test I had back three years ago.  She checked my record and sure enough it was elevated.  How I found out was simply amazing in my mind.  My maternal grandfather was a blood donor for most of his adult life.  He passed away in July of 2010.  I went in March of 2011 to donate blood in his honor and was told then that I had a high iron count.  I went and had it checked and that is the test that came back high.  Now, three years later I was having a bunch of issues with different items: sudden weight loss, fatigue, foggy mind, unable to concentrate where I normally have no issues staying on task and I was VERY moody.  At my last regular Dr appointment she tested my Ferretin levels.  Turns out they were above 550.  She immediately had me to go a Gastrointestinal Dr who had me tested for Hereditary Hemochromatosis.  I had no clue what this was!  The Genetic testing came back as Homozygous H63D.  I was then diagnosed as having Hereditary Hemochromatosis, and I have a liver biopsy scheduled for this upcoming Thursday May 8th.  To say I'm scared and not well educated is an understatement.  My grandfather passed away from a sudden massive heart attack. We believe it may be due to him also having a high iron problem and think that may have been why he donated blood so often, until he got cancer in 2002.  He died 8 years later from the heart attack.

Sorry for the long rambling and random thoughts/way it's worded.
