Beer is one of the important parts of the traditional male culture. It’s more than just a drink - it’s a part of identity and one of the tools to recognize oneself as a man. This may sound ridiculous because nothing defines your gender except yourself. However, beer is a social marker considered an essential component of a man’s life.

A habit of drinking beer every day is part of many men’s daily routine. One or two bottles a day sound very innocent, but it’s a trap. Being a light beverage, beer often isn’t even counted as alcohol. But it’s nothing more than a convenient self-delusion that can bring you harm you’re more likely to underestimate.

Beer Is Not That Innocent

“Oh, beer is just an innocent drink to refresh me on a hot day, so why shouldn't I drink it every day?” “Come on, it’s just beer, why can’t I drink 4-5 glasses instead of one?” “I have no alcohol problem, I just drink beer to relax (to sleep better, to comfort myself or whatever else)”. “I can do without beer, I just don’t want to”. These self-indulging statements show that people really don’t see or don’t want to see a problem.

Although beer has a smaller amount of alcohol than whiskey or gin, it still contains it. This little amount may make you think that nothing bad happens if you allow yourself to drink more. But in fact, 5 glasses of beer equal to half a bottle of stronger alcohol. Does it still seem that innocent to you?

Daily consumption of alcohol does lead to an addiction. Justifications about the relaxing effect of beer, coping with stress with the help of it or other comforting benefits of drinking it are already markers that beer is something more to you than just a tasty refreshing drink. Be honest to yourself and find a healthier coping mechanism.

What Beer Does to Your Body

Besides the drinking problem that ruins bodies, minds, and lives, there are also health issues. To be honest, there are some benefits, too. Let’s begin from them.

  • The hop contained in beer really helps you sleep better due to the calming effect of this plant.

  • Beer is rich in vitamins and nutrients that are good for your body.

  • Beer contains almost no sodium.

The disadvantages are, however, more numerous.

  • Beer negatively affects your sexual function - it reduces the level of testosterone in your body.

  • Beer is fattening like any other alcohol - this is why weight loss for men means no alcohol at all. Besides, beer makes you want to eat salty snacks that make you want to drink more beer, basically a closed loop.

  • Beer is a strong diuretic that makes your body lose water and get dehydrated.

  • Like any alcohol, beer is bad for your liver due to its waste products.

  • The bubbles and foam in beer are bad for the walls of your intestine - they make it weaker and interfere with the normal digestion of food.

Does it mean you should quit drinking beer forever? Well, your body would have thanked you for this decision. However, you can allow yourself 1-2 glasses a week. But don’t drink it every day - it’s a slow and sneaky way to ruin your health and become addicted.
