Insomnia: Day 5
This is the fifth straight night I haven't been able to sleep, but my first journal about the topic. Tonight may be the hardest night, though, because I have a doctor's appointment at 8 am, where they are supposed to draw blood, meaning I should be fasting right now. I am not sure what is going on in my body. I'm exhausted, but as soon as my head hits the pillow, I am wide awake. But, as soon as the sun begins to rise, I am out like a light. Am I a vampire? This has happened to be before, several times, and I have never figured out what to do about it. I have tried herbal teas, like chamomile, but they don't work. I don't want sleeping pills, because seriously, do I really need another drug going in to my body?
In the morning, they are going to take my blood. They will find out, in addition to being on the wrong dosage of thyroid medicine, that I am no longer a pre-diabetic, but that I have full blown type 2 diabetes. I am terrified. But my mom, who is a diabetic, took my sugar tonight and it was 161, way too high for a normal person. I am falling apart and don't know what I am going to do about it. There are so many websites and books to teach us how to eat and exercise and I have been through every single one of them. I just can't seem to apply any of it to life. What is wrong with me?

Good luck at the drs. Let me know what happens.
You are probably just nervous about the appt and it is effecting your sleep. Hopefully your sleep will return to normal after the appt is over.
I know how it feels, the not sleeping. I go through the same thing every couple of months I did tests and everything but everything was \"normal\". My doctor said it could be from depression, stress, anxiety, or a combination of the three.
So maybe you\'re just worried or got too much on your mind...
It is really annoying especially when you\'re seriously exhausted and can\'t sleep. I even tried sleeping pills, even took oxcodone when the sleeping pills didn\'t work.
I found a bubble bath, good soothing music, a book, or maybe a TV show. Something funny and can get your mind off of whatever is bothering you. For me I watch episodes of How I Met Your Mother, it\'s a comedy, 20 minute episodes and it\'s fun, so eases up my stress.
Hope things get better and all goes well with the doctor appointment. And I\'m always here if you need to talk!
Take care.
You can handle whatever comes your way. I\'m sure stress isn\'t helping your sleep, either. Unfortunately, computers and mobile devices act as stimuli so they won\'t help you to fall asleep either. If you do get a diagnosis of diabetes, look at the situation as an opportunity. Perhaps it will give you the extra push to do what you need to do. I was there myself. Diabetes is not a lifetime sentence....you can overcome and manage the problem. You can do this!!! Hugs
