Inner peace

Good Morning,

I am new to the group and I have been desperatley looking for people who know what I'm going through because I feel like you can have friends and family support but if they have never had a child in trouble they will never truly understand. My son is about to be 31years old and is currently in jail awaiting sentencing . He is facing anywhere from 10 to life. The fear of the unknown has been really hard for me. I'm trying my best to stand in faith however I have failed most of the time. Yesterday I saw something that I thought I would share hoping it helps someone too. I saw something that said we can't control anyone . Even when we try to the results are usually only temporary. We as parents do everything we can for our children, even our adult children and sometimes that is not enough. At the end of the day everyone has their own battles to face and we can't fight them for them. We are only responsible for our own inner peace. I know thats super hard to follow because lots of times I feel like my inner peace is reliant on my children's happiness however in order to keep myself sane for my other children I am going to try hard to remember that I am only responsible for my inner peace especially when I have gone above and beyond for my children. I hope this helps someone like it helped me. I will continue to pray for a miracle for my son and for his inner peace.

Thank you Jojoannie for your post. My son is 27 years old and in jail awaiting sentencing for (what I heard was) 20-life. It has been very hard to say the least. It is unimaginable to think that this has happened to him/us. I just can't wrap my head around it. I can't see myself ever coming to terms with it. What you said in your post is absolutely true. We are responsible for our inner peace, our happiness, everything. Our well being can't be tied to one person. We have choices. They have choices.

I feel the very same way Marianna. Sometimes I’m fine because I forget for a little while but then I remember and I find myself so lost at times . I do my best to think positive so I can be at peace but the truth is it’s been a real struggle for me. He’s about to be sentenced in March and then will be transferred to prison and that’s so scary for me because I know he’s terrified.
