indulgence
Indulgence.....such a luxury, such a pleasure.....a little indulgence, such as a cookie, or a candy bar, or perhaps a soft drink, just something to indulge in for a taste treat that puts a smile on your face and in your tummy.....what can it hurt?
For myself, one of my greatest indulgences is a cup of coffee in the morning. We buy fresh roasted coffee beans and usually grind them just prior to brewing a pot of coffee. It is the ultimate coffee pleasure....unless....as I recently discovered, you need to have an IV solution infused like I do every three weeks.
I discovered, the hard way, that doing so constricts ones blood vessels making it difficult for a technician to put the needle in the right spot. Needless to say, by the time the tech had declared victory, I looked like the loser in a wrestling match with a porcupine. It made me realize how important self discipline can be at times. Now I have a different perspective of indulging. Rather than indulging in a cup of coffee on infusion days, I will indulge in a glass of juice.
Now with my confession of ignorance behind me, let me also confess that I am almost halfway done with the infusions. So far so good. I was scheduled to see my pulmonologist this time prior to my infusion. He was sick and so I saw one of his peers, a Doctor Best. He had a hard time hearing the crackles in my lungs as I took deep breaths. He commented that they could easily be missed and sounded surprised. (Crackles are sounds a fibrotic lung makes during breathing.) I was surprised. This was the first time a pulmonologist told me that my crackles were almost non-existent. How much sweeter that might have been from the doctor I normally see. But it is still encouraging.
In six weeks, I get a full work up for comparison before I began the infusions. I am looking forward to seeing the comparisons for several reasons. I am interested on a personal level but also, I belong to a couple of online forums of other PF patients of whom many are involved in the same drug trial that I am. Their comments have been echoing mine that I have shared with all of you these past months. As we are all about the same point in the study, it will be interesting to see how we are all doing.
