Inducing Phobias

I do not know what has been waking me out of my sleep in recent nights. I accepted my restless sleep as one of life's mysteries a very long time ago. I do not remember the dreams I woke from, but I woke with the restless urgency of nervous dreams. The night feels tinged with undefined need. Nothing new. Just another restless night.
I skirted the bright spots in the yard as sought the company of my plants. The basil sits in one of the brightest spots with a direct view of the street lamp the sensor lit neighbor burns on his back porch. The switch lit neighbors forgot to flip their switch last night. There was only one glare to block as I shook the plants for a soothing burst of their calming aroma and admired their tiny white and purple blooms against the shades of night. Gentle shades that faded in the electric wash of my neighbor's light when I moved my shadow down the line to the next plant. Herbs on the hoof are my personal favorite aroma therapy.
After my aroma therapy, I wandered from one light shielded spot to another, pausing for stretches to relax tense muscles, contemplating anew whether my light phobia is grown from a great strength. A strength so integral to my nature I had never questioned it until that strobing computer monitor messed with it during a high stress period.
I have strong night vision. Extremely strong. I have found lost earrings on unlit gravel at night. I see light long after most folks see only darkness.
