Incidents and Other News

Before I forget, I just wanted to record a couple of incidents.
One is: DH was meeting a friend for a drink. He told me what they talked about, which included this friend going out with a girl, who kept checking her iPhone during the whole date. Basically, the date was a bust, but DH told me that he told the friend: "Friend, never buy a woman an iPhone--it'll ruin you!" Now, it was DH who bought me my iPhone, which I've always appreciated, but have never taken it out during social times except to look something up that came up during conversation. Huh??
Incident #2: The other night during dinner, we heard on the news how Obama was visiting the grave of Cesar Chavez. To which DH started ranting how "Hugo Chavez was nothing but a dictator & why was Obama doing that...etc." So I corrected, "they're talking about Cesar Chavez, not Hugo Chavez." Him: "He's still a dictator, etc etc". Me: "No, he's not a dictator at all." Him: "Well, he's a communist, etc etc" at which point I dropped it. I mean, if it was me on the other side of the conversation, I'd be like, "Oh...who is Cesar Chavez, then?" Seriously, the intentional ignorance astounds me.
Other News:
I figured the best time to talk to my son about getting to school was (a) not in the car and (b) not at the dinner table. And that was a good idea. I asked him how he intended on getting to school & he said that he didn't want to do the bus, that he wanted a ride. I was like, "If I'm going to give you a ride, you've got to be on time. I get up a whole hour earlier just to bring you to school & I don't need to." He basically said two things: 1-he didn't like when I gave him a hard time in the car (talking about Friday), and 2-he could make it downstairs between 7 & 7:10.
I told him that if he could get downstairs between 7 & 7:10, then I PROMISED I would NOT give him a hard time. And if he came down afterward, he'd have to make his own arrangements after that. So you know what? He came at around 7:06. I thanked him when he got in the car for being on time & "left him alone" (which he prefers at that hour) for the ride. Not too hard, right? Let's see how it goes tomorrow.
