In my little world

It's blueberry season again.  I have to pretty much babysit my bushes so I can keep up with the japanese beetles. They are not native to Maine. I think I read somewhere that they came over here on a container ship accidently. I knock them off into a pail of water. Apparently, they never learned how to swim so I use that knowledge to my advantage.  They can cause alot of devastation in a short amount of time.  I only sprayed them once about a month ago but I always stop a few weeks before I start picking them.

My pears are doing great.  It's the first time this tree gave me more then one pear.  The other tree is younger and had blossums for the first time but no pears.  I have about a dozen or more so I'll probably share them with the neighbors.

If you remember in a past journal, I talked about having two riding lawn mowers. Bought one and was able to fix the other, and then in another journal where I talked about my new neighbor bailing me out last winter by snowblowing my driveway after a big storm when I couldn't start my own snowblower.  A few days ago I saw him mowing his big lawn with an old push mower so while he was at work, I drove my older riding mower across the street and parked it in his driveway with a sign that read, "free gift for you" .  He messaged me on facebook and went on and on about how happy he is.  Previously, I had been thinking about selling it but I came to the conclusion that I prefer giving stuff away, for some reason.

Let's all pray that the war ends soon.

~~~Peace~~~
Bob, It was so good of you to give him that extra lawn mower to your neighbour. As for those blueberries, those Japanese beetles would be competing with me big time. I love blueberries. I am glad that you got more pears this year. God Bless my friend hugs
Thankyou Rich!
Thankyou Mary! You would have a full time job sending beetles to heaven if you were here!
Bill, they are actually very pretty!
Thankyou Sun. I hope so too!
Oh, the blessing of giving the extra riding mower as a neighbor gift is awesome! Love it!
I know, lost all our blueberries this year to the birds. They need to eat, too. Glad you have some good ones!
Pears, yippee! Enjoy the bounty!
Thanks Mid. Yes the birds have also been a problem but I have feeders out in front of my house so they are well fed, which leads me to something really cute that I saw on my feeders recently. There was a mother wood pecker on one of the perches and another wood pecker on the perch next to it. I am guessing the second wood pecker was this year's baby because the mother would grab a seed out of the feeder and pass it to the mouth of the baby, like she was showing the other bird how to do it! A few days later, I saw something similar between two grossbeaks! Very cute and fun to watch!
I love blueberries, bob, and I miss them here in Mexico. Thanks for sharing that photo of them. And you and your neighbor live up to what neighborliness ought to be, what with his snow blowing for you and your giving him that mower. Wow. Keep bringing joy to the world, my friend.
Thankyou Muji, When I was younger, I wasn't as generous as I am today but I have learned through the years that generosity to others returns more of the same at a later date so I live pretty comfortably at this moment in time.
You will live a long time if you eat blueberries. They have lots of vitamins and antioxidents. Almost as much as acai berries, and cheaper too!
