Improvemnet in situation
My husband has been doing much better lately but of course I am waiting for the " attack" to happen again. From the past months, he always has a "run" of good days. The last time was 18 days with no pain, then a bad one. We can't exactly pinpoint what might trigger the pain, but we feel postivie that the time periods of pain free may increase. It has been almost a year since the TN diagnoses and the road has had many bumps. Many medications have been used. Amitripyline was added to Gabapentin in January and he has done better on this. The Neurologist had tried the Tergetol in December and he became a "zombie." He was walking around in a daze and could not put sentences together. He didn't want to live. When the pain continued when on Tegretol, he begged me to kill him. He didn't know what he was saying or doing.
Amitripyline is an anti-depressant in which I feel has been the improver of his emotions. My husband never took any medication before the TN but now, takes a total 13 pills a day, 4 times a day. He is afraid to miss a dosage.
I will say that whether it is the sunny skies or the change of medication, he has been out trying to do yard work and hasn't had no pain as of yet. He even took his kayak down the creek for a short distants. This is something he hasn't done since the summer of 2008. Last summer he was in constant pain and we spent most of time going to doctor's appointments, and testing.
Even though he has not really had an "attack" in a few weeks, he does have days he is still"off". Tuesday was one of those days, he was tired and fuzzy in thought.
Finacial situations compounded issues but after leaving his job of 20 1/2 years, he decided to cash in his 401K to make things a little easier for us. We got most of the bills up to date and decided to purchase some needed things that had quit at the home. A new washer and a new stove was top of the list. We invested in a riding Lawn mower, which this is how he did the yard. He had not attempted to mow since May 23, 2009 when the TN pain forced us to go to the ER.
We spent our 25th wedding anniversary in the ER, with the pain, only to be told that it was a inner ear problem. The truth was diagnosed in June, almost a month later by another attending ER doctor, who said to us........I haven't seen this too often but I think I know what you ail from and you are not going to like it!" After hearing his understanding of TN, I didn't know what I was in for as a wife.
