IM HOME
Wow I cant believe how long it has been since I've written in here. Things got pretty busy during and after my birthday. After I came home from Mom's on my birthday, we turned around and went back. Mom was having surgery on the 12th of June.
Lynn and I went out that day. She was in Little Rock until the 14th. That was the day she was coming home. It was also the day Lynn had to go back home. I was planning on being there for atleast a month.
She had had her ankle replaced. Ow!! Russell had taken her in the handi-cap van that Mom got when Dad died in 2005. She took over the payments so that my grandparents could be driven around, since my grandmother is wheelchair bound.
The first day Mom was home was a disater! I couldn't believe that so many things could happen in a thirty minute time period.
Russell drove the van to the back of the house to unload Mom in her wheelchair so that she could go up the ramp and into her recovery room.
First they couldn't find a place to let the lift down. Mom was in pain and had to pee really badly. She kept fussing at Russell to hurry up and do something. I was standing ten feet up the ramp, waiting to see what I could do to help.
Trying to get out and see where he might be able to back down the yard to a level place, Russell started to back his seat up so he can get out easier. ( He has bad knees) Unfortunately, Mom's wheelchair is still locked into place in the van. The chair backs right into her foot that she just had surgery on. Ow, ow, ow!!!
She starts screaming and the agonizing process of the electric driver's seat starts moving forward. After that, Mom yells that she wants her chair unchained from the van. Russell rushes back to do that. After the chair is unlatched Russell tries to move the van again. It just seems that there is no even space to let the lift down. In my head, I'm thinking that a two inch drop of the lift would be worth the pain just to get into the house. After several minutes of unsuccessful tries, Mom yells for Russell just to move, move, move!!!
He hits the gas and her wheelchair flies to the back of the van. The only thing that stops her is that her hurt foot slammed into the back seat of the van. I don't remember moving, I only remember suddenly being in the back of the van and pushing her chair back with my feet so that I can help her with my hands free. She is crying and I can't blame her and I can't do anything about it. Damn! Suddenly she just let's out a scream. Man, that was scary. We finally decide just to get her out of the van any way we can. We finally get her into the house and into her recovery room. I am trying to help her into bed and she is in such a hurry that she stands up too soon and misses a gentle seat on the bed by two inches. She flops onto the bed and her hurt foot slams into the floor. OMIGOSH!
I don't dare say anything or do anything beyond getting her legs onto the bed. Once I have her there and she starts to calm down, I step out the backdoor and just burst into tears. It doesn't last long, I don't have time for that.
Russell is calming down. The thought of anything happening to Mom just terrifies him. I clean my tears and go back in and plop down in Mom's wheel chair and just give her a "I'm so sorry look."
She tells me that she can't believe how calm I was. She just doesn't know how upset I really am. Then she decides that we need to call an ambulance to make sure that she hasn't caused any damage to her ankle. That ride and return was much easier with proffessionals in charge. She returns and everything looks fine.
I am in her office on a bed that she had bought just for me. Twin of course. ugh. But it does have a memory foam mattress on it. It feels like heaven. I told her that I would leave my cell phone on so she could call me when she needed help. I think I helped her use the bedside potty eight times that night.
Anyway I am getting very sleepy. So many things happened while I was there that it will take many entries to cover the last two months.
Good Morning for now.
