If YOU don't do it, WHO WILL? --Jack LaLanne, fitness expert
Hello friends, I only watch one soap opera, DAYS OF OUR LIVES. Preceding that show there is usually the dreaded Infomercial. Happened to hear Jack LaLanne say, IF YOU DON'T DO IT, WHO WILL??? That is so true. When obese children are brought onto talk shows, the blame rightly goes to the mother or caretaker of these children. We are not fully responsible for our eating habits as children, but as adults, WE ARE. No matter what support we get from a diet program, a support system, family, doctor, or friends, WE ULTIMATELY HAVE TO DO IT ALONE, in the sense that only we can control what we put in our mouths. FEAR of being slimmer, oddly enough, can be one of the saboteurs of our dieting effort. As much as we consciously want to be slim, our unconscious mind will do everything to sabotage us. Almost universally, WE FEAR CHANGE. Or we have unrealistic ideas about how perfect life will be when we lose weight. We lose a chunk of weight, get scared, have problems unrelated to weight, and bingo, the stage is set for a relapse. My mother used to weigh 230 lbs., which is what I weigh now. She now weighs 170 lbs. and at 90 years of age, still has to use a walker and has extreme difficulty getting up from a chair. If she hadn't lost the weight, she would be totally bedridden. She would be an OBESITY INVALID. That is so NOT what I want for myself. Since my dad was 87 when he died, and my mom is 90 and still alive, genetically I stand a good chance of living a long life. I DO NOT WANT TO LIVE IT OBESE. It scares me to think of how much more weight I need to lose. Therefore, I am setting a very small and doable goal for June. Lose another 5 pounds. When the doctor reduced my Synthroid (thyroid meds) it became even more difficult to lose. Therefore, I have cut my calories from 1600 to 1400. After less than a week on 1400 calories, I felt better. I felt better because I am doing it. I also felt better because I am giving my older, overstressed, obese body LESS FOOD TO HAVE TO DIGEST. The ultimate of course is "fasting", which heals a lot of pain and disease and results in a euphoric "high" feeling--but realistically our bodies need a minimum of food, so I'm not suggesting anybody fast! Here's an update on THE TALE OF THE BRA. One of my goals is to wear my special sexy "uplift" bra WITHOUT the bra extender. I am one notch less on the extender. I am 33 percent to the goal. When I get to the second notch, I'll be 67 percent to my goal. When I can eliminate the extender, and wear this size 40 bra without "help", I'LL HAVE ACED THE GOAL. Also a pleasant surprise today. I was wearing the bra and it doesn't cut and bind anymore. It holds the bosom up nicely and I was wondering if a blouse of mine would fit, since there's an extra inch in the bust. Well, not only does the blouse fit, it's plenty big even over my 'VICTORIA SECRET TYPE bra! If I stay motivated on the 1400, I know I'll lose 5 lbs. in June!
