I wrote this poem for a friend
My friend's husband has Alzheimer's and 6 months ago she had to place him in an assisted living home after taking care of him for several years. He was the love of her life and 18 years older than her. I think of her struggles and wrote this about 9 months ago. He married thirty years ago the womanhe loved whispers her prayersyesterday he knew her name today he blankly staresshe cares for him in the daythe tears they fall until she sleepsshe loved him then, she loves him nowlove's forever, love's for keepsa new morning arrivesand there's that sad smileperhaps it gives her strengthfor yet another mile. ~Sherry '08

That is a beautiful poem, it say\'s everything. The sad struggle of a person slowly regressing back, winding up with no past to recall but just the blank stare. I have had two relatives that were stricken with alzheimer\'s . A robust life lived by both. God Bless her and her husband and all those that are stricken, and not forgetting those that are the care takers and families of the alzheimer\'s victim.
That is so beautiful and so sad.
thanks for sharing. you\'re a good poet and writer. alzheimers is so sad.
Thank you ladies. It is sad what my friend has been going through and sad to see what has happened to her husband. I feel so much for family and friends of those who have Alzheimer\'s. I feel so bad for him, he was highly intelligent and a great singer. I used to take my guitar to their house and sing and help him sing along with me. It brought him joy and that touched me and my friend so much.
Alzheimer\'s is my worst nightmare. My maternal grandma suffered with it for about 25 yrs before she passed away. Another very good poem, keep them coming!
It is quite a nightmare and sorry you had a loved one with Alzheimer\'s. If you all want to read my poems/songs then I will keep them coming, thanks. : )
This flows with the ups and downs of life. Truly a talent. Truly an inspiration to try to stop the pain of Alzheimers. Big Hug!
Thanks Oakie (well you never told me your name), if only we could stop pain, the physical and emotional kind but never while in this world, I don\'t think.
Wow that is so awesome.
Oh thank you Poetloe and I am guessing you are a poet. : )
very nice but sad poem. that is such a terrible disease, and these longterm care places, damn something has to be done about the costs, its insane. but ithe rich they dont have to worry about the money end of it. nor do the law makers care, in this i got mine, so i dont care, kinda world.
my dad was on dialysis for 13 yrs, died when i was 20, he fought a good fight, though his death was unexpected, actually a docs error, it was the best thing for him, as he had suffered so long, and done so with a smile. he was very brave but alone i feel he would have been much like i am, hopeless and tired of fighting. support does mean so much.
its so nice to see pple still so full of love as your friend and her husband. some would walk away, jet to reno for a divorce and say ive got to live my life, sorry. as is so popular with the selfish meh-ness that we see so much of today. im so sorry for your friend and for her husband. i hope things work out as well as possible in this awfully sad situation. todd
Thanks Todd, it amazes me as well how they loved each other so fully and purely, beautiful. They have money but not rich and I\'m sure she would\'ve gave up every single penny they had to still have him.
