I thought I was doing something good
I have 4 feral cats that I have been caring for since 2008. Mama kitty was this tiny small kitten when I first saw her through the fence on my neighbors property. Her mama must have had her under the deck and one day never came back. She was a feral kitten and nobody could catch her. My neighbors would give her left overs and put a dish of water out. Nobody around here really knew what to do but feed her.
She ended up having two litter of kittens before we finally found someone to help us. I was able to catch all of the kittens from the second litter and they found homes. I had the first litter and Mama kitty spayed. I thought I was doing a good thing, I just wanted to help them have a better life as a feral cat.
Jump to 2014, I am still feeding the 4 cats plus another feral and a neighbors cat. I rent my place and just never thought what would happen if I ever had to move. That time has come that I have to move and my only option is to euthanize my 4 feral cats, they will not survive because they have never been without food. They pretty much live on my porch and wait for the food. They do not wonder the neighborhood or leave this area. They have no other food source.
I have been so depressed and do nothing but cry. This is the part that hurts the most. There is a lady down the road who also feeds feral cats and I got to know her in 2009. I had seen her and another lady trapping cats so I went to talk to them and learned about the TNR program. I went down to her house to give her some cat food that my cats would not eat, yes they are picky feral cats. I told her that I have tried everything for the last 3 years finding them a new location and I have ran out of time.
She started yelling at me and telling me that I am a renter and should have just left the cats alone. This lady and I have talked several times since I met her, we talked a lot about her cats my cats and cats that people keep dumping in our neighborhood. I thought she was nice and we got along pretty good so I don't understand how she can just blow up at me because of my situation. I am heartbroken that I have to do this and I keep putting it off because I'm not a person who hurts or kills any animals. They are like my pets and I love them so much. I'm crying just thinking about ending there lives. They have brought me so much happiness. I just can't believe this woman would make me feel so much worse then what I already feel. I was only trying to help them and now she is angry with me because I did help them. Could you watch kittens slowly starve to death? I couldn't do that. I can't help it my landlord died in 2010, I can't help it that his wife is now selling this place. I have lived here for 13 years and I didn't sit around telling myself that I would be homeless in the year 2014. I'm just rambling now, sorry. It's not like anybody reads this anyway.
