I think it gets better

Today is 36 days without a drink. My first week was terrible I thought that I was going crazy the shakes, hallucinations, nausea, shits, you name it I had it goin on. The night I quit drinking I took a bunch of pills knowing the next day was going to be terrible. Even after just a few hours of not drinking I would get the shakes and extreme anxiety. I dont know what I did but I felt like I was dying so I admitted myself to a hospital for o.d. I told them I wanted to be admitted because I was goin to detox and I couldnt do it at home in front of my kids. They admitted me to an acute mental illness unit because the drug unit was full. Those three days were hell. I thought I was crazy but being on that unit while d.t.ing just made it some much worse. The crying and screaming and freaking out by the other patients juat tripped me out more. My anxiety was unbelievable... I pulled through. I survived even when it felt like I wasnt goin to. When I thought there was no coming back. I feel 100x better and its only my 5th week. Im goin to keep goin. I dont ever wanna feel that way again... Its like death.

The pain I went through to get off the drug is one thing that I keep remembering when I get a trigger or tempted. I dont want to go thru that hell again, no way.

I say that Its easier to stay sober, than to get sober.

Keep it going and congrats on the 5 weeks!

I sobered up in Wyoming. Looking back, I don't know how I got through that first week. This was before the age of computers. I borrowed a book, from the library and learned meditation. I found meditation, to be a great help, in preventing a relapse.I learned to take care of problems, as they came up, rather than go to booze to avoid them.
