I read a book

Last night I did some pleasure reading.  It seems like a minor thing but I hadn’t read a book since my tinnitus began 6 months ago.  I used to read a lot but after tinnitus I didn’t think I could do it.  The thought of it actually scared me.  So last night I picked up a book that had sat in my night stand for 6 months and read a chapter.  What I discovered was that I still enjoyed reading but my tinnitus seemed a little worse when I was done.  I suppose it’s was from the quiet concentration.  Maybe next time I’ll try reading with headphones on.

Hi Bob. I use headphones to play music to sleep with each night. I think using headphones to play some non-distracting soothing music can help you with reading. 6 months is a short time. You\'re still adjusting. It will take time. I\'ve had mine since 2002. :( I can read now without headphones, but sleep is still difficult without headphones.

I haven\'t read a book since my T started 6 months ago either! Also scared. Trying it with the headphones on is a good idea. I might try that!

Thanks for the post! : )

Bob, I went through the same thing too. I was an avid reader and when I got a Kindle as a present 1-1/2 months after I got T, it took me a while before I could turn it on. When I first tried, I turned on the a/c in the house which provided some background noise and then I used my fan. Now I can finally read without any added distractions but it took time. I\'m so glad you took that step! Thanks for sharing that.
