I May Be Gone For A While

Tuesday, August 25, 2009 - 9:15 A.M.  Thanks to everyone for giving me so much support. I am starting to feel better, and will see Dr. Marting tomorrow and Dale on Monday. I am hopeful that my mood will start improving.  Due to a serious computer problem (neither my computer nor I are quite right), I may not be on here for a while. It has been infected with a BAD virus, so if my nephew can't fix it, I may have to get a new one. I probably won't know anything until Friday evening. This is just another in a series of temporary setbacks in my life. Until I return, I want to let my friends know that they are in my thoughts.

A new computer is in order. I highly recommend getting a mac. The learning curve might be steep at first but once you settle in, no viruses and way less tech support needed. I know you use some software for voice recognition that may need windows. You can install windows on a mac now though.
I used to be tech support for macs so if you need advice on them, just let me know. I\'d be happy to help you out.

This is just a quick Sunday night night note. There were more than 1,000 (yes, one thousand) viruses on my computer. They have all been deleted, and even my registry got cleaned out by people who knew what they were doing, unlike me. One BIG problem remains, and I haven\'t found anyone who knows how to fix it. My voice activated software no longer works. The program apparently doesn\'t hear anything I say. Grrr! it\'s always something.

Several years ago, I used to have a Power Mac. It was the best computer I ever used. I\'d like to have a new one, but money doesn\'t grow on trees - I know because I\'ve been looking in all the trees I can find.

I\'ll be writing in my journal soon, but the entries will have to be short until the software problem is corrected.

The change in avatars was an attempt to pep myself up. It hasn\'t helped much, but I\'m still giving it a shot.

Your antivirus software should be helping you not get viruses, Jim.

And you should have a spyware deleting program or two on your computer and run them once a week. I can recommend Spybot and Lavasoft, which are both free.

And, you should have Belarc Advisor too. It\'s a free audit program of your computer, that you can PRINT OUT AND KEEP so if you ever have to send your computer out for repair, you\'ll have all your license keys on paper.

Which version of Dragon do you use? I\'ve been thinking of getting it myself, so I don\'t sit here as long typing. There are two editions of it.

Hugs and Mojo my friend.

I think it would be a good time to hit your brother up for some more of your money. Staying in contact with the external world is key. Plus, you may need a new computer to book your trips when you are ready for them. :)

I just bought the full edition of Spyware Doctor, which is an antivirus program, a week ago. I\'m familiar with Spbot, but don\'t have it. I don\'t know anything about Lavasoft, but will look into it. I used, but don\'t have, Belarc Advisor yesterday. I couldn\'t print it out because my printer quit working - as if I didn\'t have enough problems already.

I also have SpywareBlaster and Malwarebytes\' Anti-Malware, which I was asked to download in order for the people to help diagnose, and get rid of, my computer problems. Both program are free. If anyone needs free online help, I can highly recommend:

As for Dragon Naturally Speaking, I have version 10, Preferred. Once you get accustomed to it, you\'ll never want to go back to typing by hand unless it quits working, of course.

Sam, I saw Dale today, and he said the same thing about getting my brother to help out if I need a new computer or software. As they say, \"Intelligent minds think alike.\"

And how do you feel about asking him?

I found this program http://shop.nuance.com/store/nuanceus/en_US/pd/productID.111904200

I\'ll try and find out if people like it and how it compares to Dragon Naturally Speaking.

Nuance is the company that makes the Dragon software.

Actually, I don\'t want to ask my brother anything! This has not been a good time for relations with my family.

I\'m sorry that\'s happening for you. I don\'t think you need the added stress right now.

Maybe it would be a good time to TELL your brother that you want your money so you can have control of your own life and your own finances.
