I'm clueless.....

....about what to do to build my LMT practice.  Maybe not so much clueless as paralyzed. I haven't even printed business cards yet because I don't know what to say on them. The biggest issue/obstacle is and always will be due to my gender.  First there's life-or-death fear.  I spoke with a woman the other day who is afraid to give me her home address so I can visit and give her a massage.  Because then I'll know where she lives.  If she comes to my home, how is that less frightening?  Someone said a storefront would be better because then if the frightening male therapist were hurting her she could possibly run out the door and people driving by would see her.  Then modesty.  A man's hands all over her.  Only her husband should be doing that. It's just too intimate to let a virtual stranger do that. Or a fear that it will turn sexual, with or without her permission. Either with force, charm, hypnosis, date-rape drugs or other unknown methods. And yet, to some extent at least, I think it's possible to overcome the obstacles.  Like in any business, some people will always stay away.  I can't have 100% market share.  My wife and many other women choose to only see female gynecologists.  It will always be the same way with massage.   A medical appearance rather than a hippie or new age look might help, at least with the people I meet in person.  Probably the most important thing is to KEEP the customer-clients I do get.  Make sure they're happy and found my massage to be the best they ever had. Yesterday I went to a complex on the main road thru town here that has really low rents.  It looks more like an industrial complex than office space so it might not really be suitible, but I wanted to look at it.   I was told they don't rent to massage businesses.  Being licensed by the Department of Health didn't help.  How insulting.  A burden my whole industry must face. OK, I'm rambling, but it's helping me.  Thanks for reading and your comments are welcome.Dan
