I\'m back
I'm glad to say we accomplished our objectives in CA and are back. Motels were created to remind us how wonderful our own showers and beds are. Actually, we had a very nice one in Mountain View - The Maple Tree Inn. (maple trees in CA? ) Other than the shower head that was about chin level for Eve and I (made for people less than 5 ft tall), it was great. They had free breakfast (breakfast, not just muffins and coffee) that was delicious.Drove there Saturday and Sunday with the two legs almost equal. Spent Saturday nite in a Super 8 motel in Barstow, CA. Almost a nice room except for the ants and filthy carpet and clothes rack placed to bang a head on (Eve's) and a staircase right outside the door placed to bang a head on (mine) and the sewer gas that came up from the drains when the water ran. Those are the "high" points. We pretty much filled all the white space on the comments card to send in telling them about our stay.On the way back we dropped down from Barstow about 40 miles to Victorville and stayed in a Comfort Suites. That was another great motel. Parking left something to be desired, but the room was pretty good and the free breakfast was similar to the Maple Tree Inn's. All in all, it was well worth the extra hour round trip getting there and back to I-40.An aside on those comment cards. We fill them out every place we stay, good or bad. We believe management (local and corporate) should know about problem areas and where they are doing well. Especially where they are doing well. We also go to websites to give feedback where we can. We feel this assures the comment card doesn't get "lost". We took the cat, so everywhere we stayed is pet-friendly. They charged from $5 to $15 extra a night, but it's way cheaper than a pet-sitter plus the whole family stays together.The first two trips I took to Mountain View, I went the southern route along I-10 to LA, then up I-5. I found the stretch of Sonoran Desert between Phoenix and LA to be very oppressive, beyond boring. Eve echoed that sentiment the times she was with me. In Mt. Shasta we met a man who described it quite accurately as a "psychic wasteland". Oh, yeah! On this trip we went up through Wickenburg and Kingman, then took I-40 through the Mohave Desert. Boring, but at least it didn't have that oppressiveness the Sonoran has. In our opinion, the northern route is worth the extra few hours added to the trip.So, we're back. Now all we have to do is unpack and arrange from the apartment move we made just before the trip. Ain't life fun?

Life sure is fun Shevie and reading of your road trip on the morning we leave for ours has been fun. I\'m going somewhere I\'ve never been and am looking forward to it. Neato that you travel with your cat, Memphis, my handsome feline would find that quite a treat I\'m sure! I\'m glad your back. I\'m also glad that you both had a somewhat okay trip. With the exception of the motel stays.
Welcome back Shevie~....Great news that you accomplished your goal in CA....and what an adventure you had along the way....It really is nice you are able to take your kittie with you...to make it complete....It really is nice to be home huh....love and hugs...d.
Life is fun for us because you are in it...LOL. I am sp pleased that your trip sounded fun and everything is accomplished.
But on the selfish side of me I am just really glad you are back. It seems you have this knack of saying just what a person needs at the time.
It so hard to get settled back in after a trip. Take it one day one step at a time.
