I'm a fucking idiot
I was at my dear friends house chilling with her child. I wasn't interested in what he had on the TV. so I started playing on her computer. Her computer had just recently been flushed of viruses, and the end result was that she had lost her sound. Sound is actually a very easy fix, so I wanted to be helpful and get her sound working. Before, she had some seriously embedded shit on her harddrive. When I did a system restart, a phoney error screen came up, and a bogus antivirus was causing it. I knew right away what it was, but I panicked because getting it off would take time and I didn't want her to see me trying to fix THAT, so I did a system restore. The problem is that she had never before even done a backup, so the restore started it from WAY back to when it was new. I panicked again because she had lots of photos on it on many I'm sure were irriplacable. So I went to system restore again to see if I could change the date of the restore and try to get it back to the way it was before I biffed it. There wasn't any way of doing so, but what it did was start it over again to restore from the beginning. I panicked YET again, because there wasn't a way to stop the restore. I did a shut down and when I tried to start it again, a specific file from windows was missing, and she doesn't have her windows disk. She had asked me NOT to touch it the night before because she was taking it to the computer shop down the block to get it fixed. God, I can be so stupid. All her saved powerpoint assignments are on there and tons of her favorite songs. She's had so much crap happen to her in the last couple months that I just wanted to help ease some of her woes, and instead I added to them. FUCK
