I love Saturday mornings
I had forgotted what a bliss it is to wake up early on a Saturday morning, feeling good, not hungover, not depressed, not having a million thoughts go through my mind about the things I've put off and need to do today, just listening to the rain and feeling glad to be alive. I struggled last night against going to a Halloween party. Although I really wanted to see my friends, I knew I would be tempted to drink and would have to drive home. It wasn't worth the risk. I know my addiction well enough at this point to know what phase I am in, the "honeymoon," the "flight to health" or whatever you want to call it. Typically this lasts a few weeks, then I feel so great that I am convinced I no longer have a problem, so one or two drinks would be OK. See? I stopped at two drinks, I am fine. A few days later, that becomes three or four drinks, then four or five, and the next thing you know I am full-on binging again. I have faith that I can stay on this path, and I know I cannot do it without the help of others. Thankfully, I think I found the right AA group for me, and I plan to stick with it.
