I just don't get it......

So angry....again.
I asked DH to bring home his "electronic tape measure". The one that cost 150€ and he uses every day at work to measure the surface area of rooms in apartments and houses that he is showing clients with a view to buying.
So he brought the damned thing home yesterday evening so we could measure the wardrobes in the rooms to have shelves cut exactly to size and have bad-leg friend install them.
Didn't too it last night "I'll do it tomorrow", "leave the dishes too, I'll do them" (not done). Result, got up early this morning to do it (myself) and of course it was a total nightmare. I get the impression that if I'm asking him to do anything for me, for DD, for baby he doesn't want to know and will make a song and dance out of it. It's just too much hassle and it's not a life changing event for him so he doesn't care. He took the thing out of my hands and said he'd do it, whilst telling me what a waste of time it was...blah, blah, blah. So I ended up telling him not to bother and to F*** off to work and leave me alone to figure it out.
Also, the 150€ electronic measuring tape is not "accurate" and I'd be better off getting bad-leg friend (Liam, I should stop calling him that!!) to come over with his high tech "measuring tape" ie a normal pull out tape and measure with that. Because they are so much more accurate than the electronic ones????? WTF???? Just another excuse to not do it. Excuse after excuse after excuse.
So he has gone to work, the wardrobes are not measured. They are not cleared out of the heavy stuff (which I can't move myself) and Liam is supposed to come over and we are meant to go with the measurements to buy the shelves and he will fit them tomorrow when I'm out. That's so not going to happen now because I don't have time to mess around with this today, I was meant to note the measurements and now they are not done.
I'm so sick of asking for help and not getting any and just getting attitude in return. I'm not someone who asks for help. I am pretty self-sufficient in most cases and like to be in control so that the job gets done. End of. It's so frustrating to have to ask although it wouldn't be half as bad if I just got an "OK" instead of a whole drama involving measuring tape and excuses.
Then in total frustration I called the housing dept again and was told that the lady dealing with our dossier is absent until further notice!!! She hasn't been back at work since I spoke to her back in Jan and handed in all the paperwork to update our housing request (increased to 3 bed) and update our income with 2009 tax info.
So the file hasn't been updated, there is no mention in there of pregnancy and giving birth in May which would put us nearer the top of the list and to top it off, I was told last year by Mme C that one request is sufficient. No need to go through the same process in the other town halls because they are all connected and we have a unique dossier number that takes into account housing availability in the 4 other towns nearby. WRONG. I was told today to stand any chance to getting housing in the other towns, I need to hand in the same paperwork at the town halls and make individual requests.
She also mentioned that as an employee, DH should ask his employer if they are part of a government scheme called 1% logement which to be honest I don't really know much about or understand. If the employer is part of the scheme, and most are, he would be able to file a housing request with them and have some of our rent or moving costs paid? I think that's how it works and the lady I spoke to said if this is the case the he should do so and this will put us even higher up on the list for housing. But can you imagine what the response will be from him. It's just not going to happen because again it's a situation that is not uniquely affecting him, it involves us too so it goes to the bottom of the pile.
At this point, what I want to do is pack up and go back to the UK where life is more straightforward. The bureaucracy here is overwhelming.
I just feel so overwhelmed by this whole thing now. No matter what I do, nothing changes either because I'm swimming against the tide and no-one sees the urgency like I do or simply because no-one gives a shit.
All my attempts at getting organised and thwarted by people who don't care and who don't seem to see what anxiety it causes. I'm totally claustrophobic now. I had to remove the stroller/car seat/ carry cot from the living room because sitting here looking at everything just depresses me. Where will it go?
Last night I ironed the clothes I have managed to recuperate from the cellar for baby. They are in a plastic drawer thing that DD kindly donated the other day when she cleared out her room (when I say cleared, I mean CLEARED). Her room is unrecognisable. I think she secretly wanted to make space so that when baby arrives, he will sleep in her room and she'll get up for feeds in the middle of the night :) The drawer unit is now half in/half out of the bathroom until such times I can get it moved somewhere else. Like Mars or Jupiter.
Right now, DD is my # ONE greatest supporter. I hate the fact that I rely on her to keep me afloat. I hate being away from friends and family. I'm actually thinking that I'd be better off back home at this stage. At least I'd be able to find somewhere to live but I know that after the novelty of being able to buy Cadbury's chocolate wears off, I'd absolutely hate it.
For every disadvantage of living here, there are 2-3 advantages although right now I can't see them.
So instead of going to hardware store, I'm going to the town halls in the two nearest towns to pick up the application forms to fill in for housing. Perhaps if DH had done the original request, then we wouldn't be sitting here no further forward a year later because we were misinformed about how the process works. After all, he knows everything right?
