I have not
I have not been here in a while, mostly because between computer problems. I am currently back in my hometown. I came here because my grandmother broke her hip while walking, she is 97 years old, she is also the woman who raise me, my mother wasn't in the picture until I was 15 years old. In every sense my grandmother is my mom, so after a very emotional reaction at work when I heard the news I decided to come see her.
Its been an experience, good one, I have to say. My aunts, my family have gather around her with agility, wisdom and even craziness; but the are all here. She survived the hip replacement surgery with flying colors. She is still in pain, but today she even sat down for a while.
I look around, my grandmother had 7 kids, 3 girls and 4 boys, they are all here, with their respective wives and in some cases their kids plus the neighbors come and go to visit her all the time. As in any large family my aunts and uncles don't really get along with each other, not much anyways. It doesn't matter, they are all here, taking turns taking care of her.
I remember once my grandmother told me her biggest fear was to be left alone when she was older. She said that been an orphan for her family was very important.
I am amazed at her strength, her reliance even at her age. My family is a little nuts, but love is abundant, every day. Real love has healing powers. I am not saying she is healed, she has to do therapy and keep recovering. But you can feel the love when you get into this small, humble house out in the seacoast of Puerto Rico. Love is love.
