I have a cold//they killed two siamese kittens at the pound that were supposed to go to rescue. grrr
i have a cold. i took advil cold medicine and it dried everything up. yay advil! love that product. i think i caught the cold from the kitten that has a cold and sneezed in my face.
the kitten caught the cold from another siamese who was going to be killed if we didn't take it. that was last week. INSTEAD, this passed monday, they killed TWO SIAMESE kittens that had mange. i'm very sickened and angry about this because animal control had a man call me to report the kittens on their porch. they didn't SAY they didn't want to touch them because of mange and the man didn't tell me and when i called the pound to say they were coming, i don't know if i would have known to mention the mange lest they be killed. they change their rules at the pound all the time, every few months. then the man called them again because i hadn't called him back yet.
i called the pound to say when they get there, call me and i'll get them. INSTEAD, they don't accept kittens with mange, even with all their "new programs" and brought them directly in the back to be killed - the manager said they weren't even at the pound one minute and they killed them. wtf?! because mange is contagious. so how about instead, put them in a carrier and put them OUTSIDE and request rescue come and get them or they will be killed? that works. after the first treatment of ivermectin the mange parasite is not contagious. i treat mange animals EVERY YEAR and its so easy and i have NEVER gotten it.
i have ivermectin for swine liquid at home. we use .25 for an adult and .12 for a kitten. i put it in with moist food or directly in their mouth. its sooooo nothing. i keep them in a separate bathroom or separate house or in a cage until the mange is gone, it generally takes about 4 weeks. one dose of ivermectin per week. i was so mad and then he gets mad that i am mad.
then he asks their vet for mometamax for the two cats we have of theirs that have ear infections, and the vet says a side effect of mometamax is that it can cause deafness (all the ear meds say this - animax also says this, but leaving an infection untreated also can cause deafness), so i say okay, how about animax, as their vet used to prescribe that himself. still don't have it. grrrrr. it can even be called in nowadays to a regular pharmacy! don't even need to write anything down.
so i'm having a terrible day with all this crap and i can't tell how much of my grumpiness is because i have a cold and how much is because they killed those two kittens for no reason. he says to me that they get so many at the pound, and its their call to make, of the 15,000 they get in each year they kill 11,000 of the animals. i have actually started looking for real estate in washington d.c. in addition to land here because it is something that has to be addressed, at least the tax for mandatory and free spay/neuter. after that i want all factory feed farms closed down and all puppy mills closed down. banning the killing of all animals would solve all of it. eat fish instead barbarians! but then what about the lobsters. they don't even feed the lobsters that are in those tanks, are they alllll crazy, what are they thinking.
w is painting his roof again, so i decided to finally "soap" my windows, i never did this before. i LOVE it, i like the shades up for sunlight, but its so bright in there that i switch rooms every morning. with the window soaped and half of the other one soaped, its perfect. you get the light, but the glaring sun is less and i can still see out from the half that is not soaped. or i can just scrape some off. never knew this could be done before. shows what i know. going green is so great!

I hope your cold is better! Had no idea you could catch a cold from a cat!! Really??? Learning something new everyday.
Oh, one other thing to learn, please. When you say \"soaping\" the windows do you literally mean putting soap on the window? Mine could do with a bit of \"soaping\" but not for sleep.....just cleaning. :)
Sounds like you are alway busy with the animals you help and doing such a great job. I hope everything gets worked out.

generally the larger mammal won\'t catch ANY of the diseases from a smaller mammal. some diseases are called zoological, meaning allll mammals can get them, but the old rule still applies. its highly unlikely that the larger mammal will catch anything from the smaller mammal.
HOWEVER, the smaller mammal CAN catch EVERYTHING from the larger mammal. that is why kittens and puppies are so fragile, they are so small they can fall victim to things that would never affect the rest of us or even a larger cat or dog.
