I don't know the world that they live in
The nursing home "social worker" gave me a speech outlining what she believes is necessary for my mother's care upon release from the nursing home. All options were beyond my mother's means, and there is nothing covered by insurance. There is nobody to help with the expenses, as we are all either on fixed incomes and can barely support ourselves, or desperately poor ourselves, and each of the options she outlined is dependent upon Medicaid kicking in, and she has not applied for it as yet. We don't even know if she qualifies.
I do not understand this "price is no object" world in which she lives, but feel the need to explain the world in which we live - where the price does matter. Where you have to work very, very hard to own anything at all, and even harder to keep it, because there are a thousand ways you can lose it.
The only acceptable option that my mother has is for us to care for her ourselves - and by us, I mean mostly me. I did not see anything that I cannot do, when I went through her routine, and it will take a lot of work, but it was totally doable, and as long as my mother can help, and she can, we can do it.
Yesterday, my friend came over and built me a serviceable temporary ramp in the garage so that I can get my mother in and out of the house safely, without having her climb stairs, and after a few more details, I can bring her home. I'm going to make an appointment with her primary care physician so that she can get checked out, and I can get some instructions, and I'm going to make sure that they phone in a month's supply of prescriptions to the pharmacy that I can pick up so that we can be ready.
I'm going to go over a shopping list with my mother and stock up on groceries, so that we don't have to leave the house for a while, and then bring her home.
I'm going to do what it takes to keep her safe and, hopefully, healthy, so that she can stay home and be alright for the remainder.
Hopefully, things will work out and we'll be okay. I really hope so.
I'm going to look out for her health and her welfare, something that she needs someone to do very badly.
