I did this to my son.
My son was told he had graves disease two years ago and that he inherited this. I found out I have it in March. I had been sick along time and doctors put it off to menapause. My gyn and my medical doctor both told me this. They only found it when it started bothering mu heart and masking me so weak I could not waslk across the house without gasping for breath. I'm overweight so I was ignored is the way I felt. Not only does my son have this now they have told him he has RA and he is only 35yrs. old. I don't care for me me but he has a long road to go being so young. He has had his radiation and it still has not gotten his thyroid regulated yet. He takes it all in stride and just goes on but I worry for him and for me. I'm told this is a managable disease. So am I over reacting or have I just not gotten use to the idea yet.

I\'m sorry that you and son are going through a lot. Since your son had an RAI, the truth is, that it takes awhile to regulate thyroid levels since his antibodies have been made worst. He\'ll go up and down for awhile. Our thyroid expert, Elaine Moore, had an RAI 24+ years ago and she is still trying to regulate. Here\'s a link that she wrote about \'What\'s the Rush in Treating?\"

It\'s a great idea to learn to be proactive in all phases of thyroid disease, hypER and hypO. I\'ve been through this for 34+ years now.

He carries on as if this is no big deal but some day he may change his mind. He has horrible mood swings but he doesn\'t think it is related, I do.
It sounds like your son\'s levels are off with mood swings and such. When we get the thyroid levels right, we feel better.
