Frodo: I can't do this, Sam. Sam: I know. It's all wrong. By rights we shouldn't even be here. But we are. It's like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo, the ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger, they were. And sometimes you didn't want to know the end, because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it's only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something, even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn't. They kept going. Because they were holding on to something. Frodo: What are we holding on to, Sam? Sam: That there's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo... and it's worth fighting for.

I can\'t wait for the darkness to pass and a new day to come. I don\'t know why or how, but I too am holding on to some good. I have no clue where it comes from. But it is worth fighting for. It\'s just such a hard fight.
I love Lord of the Rings. I happen to be one who loves darkness and sees it differently than many in this world. Sometimes, the darkness holds beauty, and reverence. Sometimes we have to accept the darkness as a wondrous gift, move through it and take from it all it has to offer. Then, with hearts and minds full, we enter the light fully equipped for ANYTHING.
Having lived through the dark times in life, we come to appreciate the lessons those times teach us. We value our newfound knowledge, even though it hurt to find it - it is still a thing found. From that side of knowledge, darkness is a great and wondrous gift.
Amen!! To all of the above!! MB, we are certainly the wiser for our dark days! But I also can\'t wait for some more of the darkness to dispel, so that I may LIVE in the light! We have each had our darkness, but there has always been some hope in us for something good in this world, something good in ourselves as well, that is worth fighting for. I too love Lord of the Rings! Remember the battle of Helm\'s Deep, when all seemed hopeless................
Nothing moved me quite like reading this just did. It made the wheels start turning and I starting thinking maybe just maybe this healing thing really is possible. That hope is there even when one doesn\'t think so. Then again.. just because you can\'t see it doesn\'t mean it\'s not there.

Everytime this series is on TV I watch it. Who knows how many times I have listened to those very lines. My step son used to ask me why I watch certain movies all the time. I tell him they give me \"Hope\". I like \"Invisible\" too. I am a football fan. Not the greatest movie, but it is inspiring during a dark time. As long as you believe, there is always hope. Thanks.
I just watched the movies a few weeks or so ago. They had a marathon on the tube. I remembered those lines, I remember soaking those exact words in; the hope in the words that Sam spoke was so uplifting. Hope is something that is nice to have back in my life. Matt, Tate told me I was the Best Mom in the whole world the other day. Hope...these precious words from a son that acted like I didn\'t even exist last Spring.

I\'ve not read the books (on my to-do list), but I\'ve seen the movies over and over again. Samwise had some of the most insightful and moving observations of the series.

Of all the characters in the series, Samwise is my absolute favorite. For emotional impact, the \"tales that really mattered\" and his declaration on Mount Doom are so disarming and emotionally impactive.

It is one of my favorite movies of all time. I cannot even count how many times that I have watched it.
I felt like Red had a choice to go to meet Andy. Andy gave him all of the \"tools\" that he needed to make it to Ixtapa, but Red had to make the choice to hope. He had lived without hope for so many years that it would have been easy to stay or commit another crime to go back to what he knew.
