I Can See Clearly Now...
I dedicate today's journal entry to Taylor.
Hi,
I can't actually see clearly now... but maybe soon. It looks like we're going to do the transplant. I have an appointment with a cornea transplant surgeon for Nov 1st. I saw my eye doctor today. He does transplants but not the newest type so he's sending me to this guy who does the DYSEK procedure... I'm grateful that Dr Nelson referred me to Dr Heigel because I had read about this new procedure and its got a lot of advantages from what I read... I won't write the details but if yall are curious just look up cornea transplants...
Needing a cornea transplant has me thinking deeper than I've ever thought before about organ donors... I'm a donor... lots of me is worn out but there's lots of skin... maybe help burn victims or something... I wanted to share a couple of sites that have been brought to my attention recently... I feel such gratitude for these people who can think beyond their own lives... their own pain... Awesome!
Below is a link to a news story about a 13 year old girl who died after a skiing accident... Under that is a link to a site her parents started to promote organ donation and if you have time check Taylor out on youtube... she had a beautiful voice.

Elissa, my dear friend, I don\'t know if you knew but we donated Timmy\'s cornea\'s. While it is not common to allow the donnor to know to whom the cornea\'s were donated, my pediatrician thought it would help with the deep grief we all felt. The first was a 12 year old girl who was a very talented pianist with the voice of an angel. The other was a 32 year old mother of 4 who never saw her children until then. The way I learned of them was that my Pediatrican was friendly with the transplant doc from Wills Eye. He gave them our name just in case they wanted to write. I hear from both to this day. The mother is now a grandmom and the girl has 2 kids both equally as talented as she. While Timmy is gone from us a part of him fulfilled his mission in life by making the world a better place for at least two people. Organ donation not only saves lives but in some cases it MAKES a life worth living. My prayers are with you. If you need me...I;ll come. Love ya, Kathy
How wonderful that you will have a transplant...there are many moms here that have children that were donors. Alex was a donor, and it saddened me when they could not use anything because his organs had been compromised during surgery...love to you...Karen
I, too, am a donor and I hope when my day comes, that my family will abide with my wishes and let the medical profession take whatever they can use. Thank you for posting Taylor\'s story site. So hard for her parents but also so rewarding to know that Taylor\'s heart beats on in another person and that she was able to help so many.
