Hurricaine Coming!

Hurricaine Ike headed this way.  It is supposed to hit Freeport overnight Friday.  Freeport is very close to Galveston.  With a storm this size is does not make much difference.  In the Houston area they are predicting 100mph winds.  They are having madatory evacuations on the West end of Galveston and other low lying areas.  In 1900 there was a HUGE hurricaine that hit Galveston.  6,000 people were killed.  Of course in those days they did not have the warnings that we have now.  People were killed because they just stood on the beach watching the huge waves.  They didn't know.  After that they built the Sea Wall.  It doesn't go down the West end which is why they are evacuating there.  They said it is too late to evacuate he whole island.  Last time during Rita, it was such a mess.  People were evacuating that didn't need to.  There was bumper to bumper traffic for like 24 hours.  People were running out of gas and there weren't any gas stations opened.  Plus the temps were like 100 plus.  There were people that died on the road.  I didn't have power for 5 days.  What a mess. They are now evacutating some zip codes in Houston.  South.  I am north of Houston.  We are getting ready as much as possible.  Candles, lanterns, batteries.  We will get some ice tomorrow.  I have the dogs leasches ready just in case we decide to leave.  Full tanks of gas and cell phones charged.  Not sure what else to do.  I will keep you all posted as much as I can until I lose power, which I am certain will happen. Talk to you soon.Anita

Mandatory evac for all of Galeston now. They are expecting it to be a Cat 3 at land fall. The stores are crazy with people trying to get ready.

Yes I will. This looks really bad. The Govenor just came on TV to say what things are in place and for those who are in mandatory evac areas to heed the warnings. The rest of us to shelter in place, or as we say here in TX \"honker down\". It is such a beautiful day today, it is hard to believe what a monster is lurking out there.

They are taking the evacuees from Galveston to Austin. I don\'t think going to Dallas is a good idea if it goes straight up. Austin looks like it will be safe.
