How to lubricate the door so that it does not creak

The creak of a door, even if it is small, can become annoying and bring discomfort to the residents of an apartment or house. Such a malfunction can cause more serious consequences over time, so it is important to eliminate it at an early stage. First of all, it is important to understand what caused the "creakiness" of the door block, and only then take measures to eliminate it.

Why the door creaks - the main reasons

There are many reasons for the occurrence of unpleasant sounds:

Incorrect installation, incorrect position of the hinges and skewed structure.

The lack of lubrication of the hinges initially, or the use of grease, which dries and hardens extremely quickly, creating an abrasive effect.

Incomplete equipment, for example, bearings are missing in the hinges.

Excessive humidity in the room. Wooden doors can swell, causing friction against the frame.

Wrong choice of installation of the coating, due to which the skin peels off and begins to touch part of the door frame.

Unreliable fastening of the loops, which leads to loosening.

The skew of the side part relative to the platbands.

The appearance of rust on the details.

It will be difficult to cope with some problems on your own and it is better to entrust this matter to specialists. But the lack of lubrication is easy to compensate even for a novice home master.

Determining the place where friction occurs is quite simple - for this you can use carbon paper. Attach the sheet to the end of the door, and then close it tightly. Opening it will show where the colored stains are left on the box, where friction occurs. Also, a thin layer of chalk can be applied to the butt.

Means for lubricating hinges

If the creaking occurs due to the friction of the hinge parts, then it is enough to lubricate. This procedure is also necessary for regular maintenance, so it is best to always have one of the following on hand:

Any mechanic or motorist always has a WD aerosol. The composition based on white spirit is affordable and sold everywhere. However, due to the small amount of oil, the effect will be short-lived. Masters most often use it for degreasing.

Machine oil - motor, turbine, household, in general, any tool will do. The composition will save you from squeaking in the doors for a long time. It should be applied in a plentiful layer using a medical syringe, a thin synthetic brush or a pipette. A dry cloth will be needed to remove excess. Before starting lubrication, the surface should be degreased.

Lead simple pencil - the lead is crushed into crumbs and poured into the grooves of the loops, after which the part is returned to its place. Oil and wax in the composition will help get rid of the squeak.

Thick liquid soap, candle wax, and vegetable oil are all simple home remedies that can help fix the problem. The only drawback is the fragility of the solution, as well as the accumulation of dust and dirt. However, if you urgently need to eliminate the creak, and there is no more professional tool at hand, these options will do.

Of course, industrial lubricants are much more efficient, plus they are most often multi-tasking and help to eliminate rust and dirt in addition to squeaking. For metal doors, it is better to use oils or WD-40, but lubricate the fittings of wooden canvases with a more delicate wax or paraffin.

How to apply grease to hinges

How to properly apply lubricant

As a rule, it is possible to lubricate the structure without removing the sash from the hinges, but in some cases it will be necessary to carry out this manipulation:

The rod connecting the hinge plates to each other should be removed using special tools. All manipulations are carried out with the door closed.

The sash must be carefully set aside so that it does not fall at the most inopportune moment.

Clean the parts from rust and dirt, then degrease and apply a lubricant.

Put the door in place, insert the rod until it stops. Tighten all fasteners.

After applying the lubricant, the canvas must be opened / closed several times so that the substance can be evenly distributed. Try not to stain the surface of the canvas with oil, it is better to cover it with plastic wrap until you wipe off the excess composition.

Eliminate door friction on the box

Eliminate friction on the box

Friction against the box can be due to old or loose hinges. The best solution in the first case would be to replace the door canopies. Secondly, you can simply tighten the components so that they do not “dangle”, or:

Fasten the loops in a new place, which will not be very easy;

Drive wooden blocks into the old holes from the fasteners, make new ones into them and screw in the screws;

Install fasteners with a large diameter.
