How to deal with this.

Following my diagnosis of stage 3 follicular lymphoma, about 6 weeks ago, I have had a great deal of difficulty "not thinking about it".   I am completely asymptomatic but have low grade stage 3 with about 8 nodes throughout my body.  Prior to this surgery that discovered the cancer, my last time in the hospital (for me) was 55 years ago, when I swallowed a quarter.   Only this week, after the primary Oncologist, his partner, and the head of the Bone Marrow Transplant Program at Johns Hopkins told me that "watchful waiting" is the right treatment for my situation, have I had "glimpses of sunlight" creeping back into my life.  BUT, the big question is, that being that we are waiting for symptoms to occur in this incurable cancer, "How do I deal with knowing that some time in the future (???) I will be getting sick?"   Everything that I read is from people who are or have been getting treated, usually for high degree, more curable lymphoma.  I may be rambling, but this is very weird, and hard fo me to grasp.  Losing my hair will not be an issue, since I shaved my head 4 yrs. ago.  I told my doctor, I guess when I can't bench press 315 anymore, that will be my indicator that I am going down (kidding, not about the weight lift, this is something that I always can do, but I really am having difficulty with dealing with an unknown).  I kind of feel like I am sitting on the banks of the Gulf of Mexico outside of New Orleans on a sunny day in late August, and way off on the horizon is a little cloud (Katrina).  Are there others here who have experienced "watchful waiting"?  How did you deal with the waiting?
