How To Change A Lawn Mower Tire

If you are experiencing problems with your lawn mower tire, you may be wondering how to repair it. Many different repairs can be done from fixing a flat to replacing a worn out tire. The first step is to inspect the tire. Taking a close look at the tread and sidewall of the tire will tell you if it has been damaged. Some of the common damage that can occur to a lawn mower tire includes cracking, delamination, and punctures.

When a lawnmower tire is damaged, it's best to replace it. It may be necessary to replace more than one tire. Lawn mower tires are made in several different ply ratings. This is determined by the ply number on the sidewall of the tire. A two ply tire is best for smooth lawns while a four ply is best for rough terrain.

Lawnmower tires can be damaged by harsh cleaners or the elements. They should be inspected periodically. You may also want to check the tire for sharp objects. These could cause a blowout.

The most common type of tire is a mixed-use turf tire. This provides good traction on slick grass. However, this type of tread is not as effective on loose soil or rough terrain. There are other options such as a ribbed tire. Ribbed tires have scalloped ribs and circumferential grooves.

Generally, lawn mower tires are used for about five years. They should be replaced at least once a year. Tires should be inflated to the proper PSI. Adding more air than you should can result in increased tread wear. Under-inflation can also make it difficult to get traction.

While most lawn mowers have a jack and wheel brake, this can't be used to raise a punctured tire. Instead, a jack stand will support the raised wheel. Once the tire is up on the stand, it's time to remove the rim from the wheel.

The valve stem should be removed with a specialty tool. The Gyno Interior Solutions  platform will allow you to insert sealant into the rim. Sealant is not only good for sealing leaks, but it will also prevent air loss.

The next step is to remove the washer and c-clip from the rim. In some cases, a retaining ring can be used. Removing the c-clip allows you to separate the tire from the rim easily.

Patching a tire is one of the most complex tire repairs you'll ever do. While there are patch kits available, it's easier to do it yourself. Before you begin, consider using a spoon to attach the new tire to the rim.

Using Stan's Sealant is also a good way to fix a lawnmower tire. It seals existing punctures, but is not the only solution. Stan's Sealant is designed to seal holes quickly and create an airtight membrane. Not only does it provide a 99% flat free solution, but it also remains liquid inside the tire for up to two years.

Another solution is to use Fix-A-Flat. This product is mainly an emergency solution for flat tires on the road. But it is important to keep in mind that it is a bit complicated to use.
