how soon we forget
My instincts were correct - T admitted to me that "Yeah - I have a beer every now and then and I can handle it". Well, maybe he can right now - but he doesn't seem to understand that this is a progressive disease and, of course, there's the denial part of it. And it did surprise me that he didn't make excuses or find reasons for the photos on his Facebook page. He must have forgotten that I'm on it. I rarely use it but since he was using my laptop I thought I'd check history and that's when I discovered it. I thought he was smarter than that. My husband and I will be meeting with a counselor to have him help us with a game plan. It's different when the child becomes an adult. I know what the counselor is going to say but we need to hear it. But I'm not sure how helpful this will be - based on my husband's past behavior. But, at least, he is willing to attend it. Strangely enough I'm supposed to be working on the PART 2 portion of the drug education program titled "Can We Talk?" This time, however, we will be presenting to the students as well. I am not motivated to do this for three reasons. One - I only have a vague idea as to what we're going to do. Two - I am not as familiar with this topic. And three - it's especially difficult to do since learning about T. But - I know I can come up with, at least, 3 reasons why I am doing this so --- I will focus on them. Today I am moving forward on another project for the foundation I help to raise funds for families of adolescents that need drug treatment by meeting the events coordinator at our local professional basketball team. I want to bring attention to our organization and hope to raise more $, quicker. The young woman I'm meeting was involved in the other non-profit organization - suicide prevention. She lost her younger brother, 16, to suicide. He also was a substance abuser. She was the keynote speaker at the first Walk I was involved in. She is a ball of fire - and very passionate. When I talked to her on the phone I told her my wild ideas (knew they weren't doable) but she was thinking much smaller in her email, until she talked to me. Now she is talking bigger. We will see.......
