How My Husband Saved My Life
I wasn't always a Christian. By that I mean, I went to church, followed the moral laws, but I didn't really follow Jesus Christ. I could have attended any church. I dated people of different religions. I had no idea what equally yoked meant, and I was a fence sitter. A fence sitter in my case was someone who attended Christian churches, professed their love and devotion to God. Didn't break moral laws. In other words, a person who appeared to be a devout Christian, but really wasn't. What I was was someone who wanted to hedge their bets. Just in case He was real. I figured if God was real, then I could stand before Him and smile, saying I did attend your church. And I was good. And I did good things in my life.
Only thing was none of this was good enough. I was sitting on a fence between two worlds. I wasn't willing to fully live in either.
Then my husband came alone--a devout, born-again Christian who'd decided which world he wanted to live in long before he met me. Thing was he fell in love with me. So in our first marriage, we were not equally yoked and neither of us knew it until later. Later being after my miscarrage. I'd spent my life not wanting children, but there I was pregnant, never beliving the child would make it to term and loving it more each day. When I lost the baby, my true colors came out. I was angry with God, wanted to scream and denie His existence. I remember asking God why? I remember barganing with Him, saying if you give me a child, I will raise him to love You even if I don't believe in you. I laughed at that. Just who was I talking to? All the while my husband was there talking to me, telling me about God. Telling me about the true Home our child had gone too. Telling me about Jesus, draging me to church. Still, I was angry, fighting him and his beliefs every step of the way. How can you be so stupid, I thought? Don't you know a just God wouldn't take our child? And my husband answered that our Just God had given His own Son for us. And that He understood how I was suffering. And that God loved me. And that on the day our child died here on earth, he was born into the realms of Heaven.
But I didn't want to believe so I fought my husband's beliefs. And later resented him. And finally I divorced him. But my husband had planted the seeds of knowledge and waited to see them grow. One day they did and we were remarried and we had the happiest life ever--equally yoked. Now, my husband is gone. He's laughing and playing with our son in Heaven. And one day I will be there with them.
And that's how my husband saved my life.
