How I stay strong, and stay on program.

I did not have to do a supervised diet, just a two week pre op liquid diet. However, three months prior to surgery, my doctors office weighed me each and every time I has any type of appointment or class. They needed to see weight loss each and every time or I could have been kicked out of the program. I was too scared of not getting to have the surgery, so that is how I kept following the program. During the two week liquid diet, they were trying to shrink my liver, so that there would be less of a chance of complications duringsurgery, so I did not cheat, because I did not want complications. I lost 24 additional pounds on the two week liquid diet. Now, 5 months today post op, I am on track, and have lost 93 lbs total. At this rate, I should reach goal by 9 or 10 months. My goal was one year, so by my standards, I am ahead of schedule. I am not here to Judge, just to share my experience. I chose to have surgery to alter my body, to achieve good health, and to have a more active satisfying life. I have sought therapy, as reccomended by my program. This has also helped me stay strong. My goal was to not cheat when I started, because I am well aware that 20% of people who have WLS will fail, they will not loose the weight and not achieve good health. I never want to be in that 20% group. Because why would I alter my body surgically to sabatoge my outcome. For me, RNY was the right decision. I make daily choices that lead to my goals of great health, and because of those choices, I am much more active, I have hope, and I look forward to my future. I feel weight discrimination is the last socially acceptable form of discrimination. I hated how I was treated after gaining 150 pounds over a healthy weight. I never want to feel that way again, so I make choices that will keep me on track. I hope you are ready for this surgery. If you cheat after surgery, you will physically feel terrible, and you will be tired and drained of energy. You will become sick. Please take care of yourself, and turn to us anytime you need strength. Look at our photos and gain motivation to stay strong. All this with love, Susan
