What I learnt from being rejected

Hey guys,

So this is probably one of the best sites I came across I love and enjoy being on it and I have been enjoying it so much that I got caught up responding to so many people that reached out to me to which I am thankful and grateful to help. I thought I’d write today and share my experience of how "I" yes me was responsible for ruining one of the greatest job opportunities I got and what this experience thought me.

So, let me cut to the chase it started with having a fascination about the airline industry as a little girl growing up I used to love going to the airport and oh how I admired the Flight Attendants. A few months ago I made friends with a few pilots and had the pleasure of traveling around the United States so the idea of this industry just grew larger each time I step foot into an airport. To add to this my case study was based on a European airline I figure by this I was meant to be part of this industry. And of course yes I passed my exam!

So, I go on different airlines and I did my research and start applying for vacancies suited for me. To my surprise when around July this year I got a call from American Airlines for a Passenger Check In Officer, I was so prepared I looked so cute and really thought I nailed the interview. I started vitalizing myself being part of that industry and everything else that I could possible think about.

However, I am the time of person that put all her eggs in one basket so of course I thought I was going to make it to the next interview and I stopped applying to other jobs and even within my field (HR). Weeks and months went by and no one called or emailed I even tried to follow up but they said the vacancy was filled. Nothing could have disappointed me more. A few months later I happen to stumble across the same vacancy and I reapplied and guess what? Yes, I got another interview. The thing is I really wanted to be part of this industry so badly and I really felt disappointed when they declined me the first time, the excited feeling honestly was not there this time and I am no longer friends with the pilot guy so I didn’t have the ‘drive’ I had back in July. So what I did was I made myself nervous I kept telling myself I was nervous and guess what again? I fucked up the interview. I got an email this week stating that I was not shortlisted. It broke my heart but I kinder knew I screwed up the interview.

What I learnt from this is that I control my emotions, and yes after 14 months my heart still hurts from my break up and I still don’t have a job but anxiety can be controlled if we try just a little in each possible situation given. After my break up I experience and I still do now mild/moderate depression and recently I felt so tired of just feeling tired and the more I told myself I was feeling depressed the more I felt depressed. So what I did was I started to allow myself to hurt and cry and write, I wrote why and how and who made me feel this way and I tried and still am trying to not allow someone or situation to make me feel depressed. I know this sounds insane to some of you but it works if you try. Honestly, with a break up one can really help you they can guide you but you only get through it by trying and telling yourself you are beautiful and it will get better maybe not today but someday it will. I might have ruined that interview but I learnt something great from it, I learnt that I feel the way I do because I allow myself to feel like this.

I know it is hard but you can do anything if you just believe in yourself and the magic we all have :)
