How fast a day can turn on you

Well, today started out great.  Beautiful weather, and I was looking forward to Miles' cross country meet.  Then I get a call from the middle school.  Miles passed out in  health class, and hit his head.  He seems fine, but Melissa's mom has him, and is taking him to his doctor to make sure he checks out OK.  I'm worried about other kids in school giving him crap about that when he gets back tomorrow.  We'll have cross that bridge when we get to it, I guess.
On top of that, Mason called to tell me that he had been fired from his job at the grocery store in town.  This is one of those stores where if you have their card you get "extra" savings.  Well, a newer employee did not have her card with her, so Mason let her use his.  They told him that this was stealing.  I'm not seeing it that way.  If he was using his card on a regular customer, yeah I see that.  But this was another employee he thought he was helping, and she was entitled to the same discount.  She just forgot her card.  I don't know what happened to her.  I think she was just as culpable in this situation, for accepting Mason's offer of help.  I want to chew on the managers rear about this, but I'm not sure it would help, or change anything.  I'm thinking there had to be a better way of handling this.  This shoots my concentration for the whole day.  :(

Tim - I\'m sorry that you\'re day is not turning out so well. Sure hope that Miles is okay and that not only do they find out that he didn\'t hurt his head badly, but also what caused him to pass out. That would sure be scary to me !!
I\'m with you about wanting to talk to the manager about Mason\'s being dismissed from his job - I think that I would really have to do that if it was me. I don\'t know if it would help or not either, but I have to admit, it would make me feel better !!!
Sending you a hug for a better evening.

Oh, gosh, that\'s awful. I hope that Miles is okay. As for Mason, perhaps there can be a discussion with the manager tomorrow and he can be reinstated for honestly trying to help, not stealing anything (he got NO personal benefit from this).

Tim-
I think your concern is justified on both accounts. I hope Miles is OK--please keep us posted. As for Mason, it seems like another case of protocol trumping common sense. Not sure that people that make those kind of decisions are likely to be persuaded to change, but I hope he has a plan B for work. Again- keep us posted. Here\'s hoping your evening goes better. CJ

Thanks everyone for the support! Miles is doing OK, just a little headache. They tell me his head hit the floor hard when he fell out of his desk chair. His doctor checked him out, and thinks he will be fine. He just started this health/sex education class yesterday, and he said the subject matter made him queasy today. I guess they were talking about childbirth. We\'ll have to see how tomorrow goes.
Mason does have a plan B for work. He still has his work study job at the college. That will pay his bills, but he needs to learn to stick to his budget to make it work. He has already started checking back with other places he applied to before he got the grocery store job. I probably won\'t press the issue with the manager. He did show Mason where the policy states that you are not supposed to do that. I think you are right CJ, I still believe that he could have used some common sense.
Thanks again, you guys! Tim

It was nice reading your \"update\" where circumstances had improved since your original post! Some days are so frustrating -- logic is sadly lacking in many situations. I\'m glad Miles doesn\'t have a concussion. Hope your tomorrow is stress-free!

Tim,

Glad things got better as the day wasn\'t going too well for you. What did the Dr. think happened to Miles? If he is not prone to \"fainting\" or \"passing out\", I\'d watch him closely for a day or so.
I\'m sure Mason will remember to read policy next time...lol. It really looks like it could have been handled in a better way.
Hope tomorrow will be a MUCH better day!

Tim- Glad Miles is ok---if you can pass along any tips on how to get the subject of sex to make my teenager queasy, I\'d be much obliged-LOL!
