How do you make high quality rosin?
The wonderful thing about rosin is that it can be made relatively easily and the process is completely safe, requiring only heat and pressure to create an organic, solvent free cannabis oil.
That means you can produce your very own concentrates right in the comfort of your own home. Are you dreaming of producing high-quality rosin or getting perfect and higher yields? But, the problem is you don’t know where to start and what are the ways that you’ll do to get this “perfect rosin”? I will help you.
Do these 4 things well.
Choose the BEST Materials
In the rosin industry it will always be Quality as a King and followed by freshness. There many customers who always have complains about getting average and disappointing results after pressing flowers.
The main cause of their problems is that they always tend to forget that they are using average flowers, which is alright. But, if you want to have that stellar results, you must need competent materials also. This doesn’t necessarily need you to purchase “Platinum” shelf buds at the market, but with rosin, your results are mostly predetermined in the garden if your press is up to par.
On the other hand, Quality is also connected to freshness. You will see you deserved best results when pressing flowers as soon as after they are dried and cured as possible. Make sure to press buds as fresh as it can be because the longer you wait, the darker it will be.
To wrap it up, you must always take note that the biggest determination for yield, flavor, and quality is depending on how great the material was grown and how strong its genetics in the first place.
Choose the BEST Filter bags And Parchment Paper
Filter bags come in different sizes measured by micron rating number (um). The smaller the micron rating number, the tighter the filter, which tends to produce higher quality rosin but with a lower yield. Our rosin filter bags range from 25um-220um.
Overall, choosing a filter size is a personal preference, but we recommend the following micron ratings as a good starting point for each type of starting material.
- Hash/Bubble Hash: 25 – 45 um
- Dry Sift/kief: 45 – 90um
- Flower/Shake: 120 – 220um
When filling your filter bags, make sure not to over stuff it. You need to preserve a small amount of space inside to prevent the contents from “blowing out” under the heat and pressure.
Once you have your filter bag filled, you’ll then need to place it between some high-quality parchment paper. We offer our own parchment paper which is milled in the U.S., is FDA approved and Kosher compliant. It works great, doesn’t tear easily, and can withstand the high levels of heat used in the process.
Choose the BEST Time And Temperature
Of all the aspects of rosin making, setting correct pressing times and temperatures are the most critical to getting good results. It’s also the area that’s most open to experimentation and debate. Dialling in the perfect settings is an art in itself, so whether you go low and slow, high and fast, or somewhere in between; understanding how these two parameters affect quality and yield is critical to improving your rosin.
- Hash/Bubble Hash: 150 – 170 F
- Dry Sift/Kief: 180 – 200 F
- Flower/Shake: 180 – 210 F
Choose the BEST Humidity
If you are first-timers in pressing rosin and wonder why you get low yields, it’s because you used flowers that are too dry. Thus, using relative humidity comes in! Remember that relative humidity of your plant material plays a major role in your yield.
However, be careful! Because Relative Humidity can either makes or breaks your yields. The humidity and moisture content of your buds can bring a great impact to your flower rosin yields.
If your flower is very dry it will be like a sponge when the trichomes are liquefied, thus soaking up much of the rosin before it has a chance to escape. Lastly, take note of this important thing when pressing your flowers: You must ensure that the relative humidity content of your material is at least 55% to 62% for desirable results.

Finally, please do remember always that the more pressure you put on your material, the more plant matter ends up getting pressed out and into your extract. Thus, it will give you less pure and dark or green rosin and at the end of the day, it will only frustrate you.
