How Do BB Guns Work?

BB guns fire plastic or aluminium pellets and operate by either compressed air, electricity, or carbon dioxide (CO2). They are generally not considered to be firearms, though some can have sufficient power for serious injury.

A BB gun is an excellent way to introduce kids to the basics of marksmanship, or for adults to get back into the sport without having to deal with the potential safety issues that come with real pistols and rifles. When a BB gun shoots, a spring piston slides backwards and catches on a small pin, called a sear. When you pull the trigger, this pushes on the sear and releases the piston, which allows the spring to expand, propelling the BB down the barrel.
